I had a old stalwart patrol ship that I was going to make a corvette.

I forgot Torpedo Boats. These were a very big naval threat late 19th and early 20th century. Flotilla of TBs threatend to neutralise the inshore use of traditional fleets. Thus the development of the "Torpedo Boat Destroyer" (later abbreviated to just "Destroyer") to counter this threat and screen the cruisers and BBs.

That's another good idea. I bet most people don't know that is how the DD got it's name. I read about it and saw it on the History Channel. I guess the Boyz at G/W don't get the H/Channel ?
