Hi All,
I am thinking of starting an Imperial Guard army and use lots of FW tanks, but how many Plastic sprues do I need to start this? I need to know how many to order.

Well, you need to ask yourself how many points do you use in your games. Also, are you playing EA, SM1 or E40k rules. with each game the army structure changes. I personally ordered 40. But, I am trying to build a very large army. The 40 spruces yeiled about 7 companies of troopers. Plus jungle fighters, heavy support, sniper, ogryns ect. Which is plenty to start an army. You may not want that many.

Hi!
Since platics will disappear, definately get as many as you can afford, you can always get vehicles later, since they will still be available.
I'd go with 50 sprues, mainly to cover misfortunes, and have spares to repair and relace lost pieces.

I can't give you exact numbers, that should be based on what size games you and your crew play. ?However, based on my experiences, (gaming & real world) I can give you general ratios of weapons types. Infantry unit: 2-3 to 1 - Inf. to Armor, Arty 1 to 3-4, Arty to Inf.& Armor units. Example : 2-3 Inf. Companies, 1 Armor Co., 1 Arty Battery (company) = an Infantry Battalion (Task Force). ? If the ratio of Inf. to Armor was reversed it be an Armor Battalion. ?Just a guideline, a lot depends on the rule system you use. ?But with the IG it appears that many have more Arty in their force then would be "realistic"  or the norm. ? As Jimbo would say, this is "beardy"  ...

I was going to stick to epic40k rules but just use my own organisation.
I was only going to order 10, but 40!! or even 50!!!
I think I will order 40. That Imperiator can wait I suppose.

personally you could probably survive on 10, though 20 might make sense...
I would seriously consider how many games you will play with 40 sprues!!!! How long will they take you to paint!!!
I know they will no longer be available, so that is a consideration, but you never know what the metal ones will be like.

Gah! I have no money  I got 8 Eldar sprues in Febuary, but hopefully I'll be getting some cash at the weekend so I may just order a few Ork and SM sprues, and perhaps an Imperator too.

Unless you have a dire need for the imperator, I would stilck with buying the spruces. It is getting harder and harder to find troops that are not already assembled or painted. I myself have bought five imperators on e-bay. E-bay seems to always have titans.

Well It's done. I just ordered the following:
40 X Imperial Guard Sprues
8 X Space Marine Tank Sprues
5 X Space Marine Sprues
You are right, I don't need an imperiator, and to think, I nearly bought three!
