I have unearthed my horde of Epic 40k models from the way-back-when. I bought this lot when GW were selling them off. Most of them are unpainted except for 30 or so bases of foot.

I probably have an excess of some things and a dearth of others. I'm asking for advice on how many people play with e.g. "you will only be fielding x of those, even with a 6,000 point army" is the sort of advice I'm looking for.

Apart from the foot troops [LOADS], this is what I have (counted in models)

Dominatrix - 4
Hive tyrants - 18
Zoanthropes - 16
Assault spawn haruspex - 12
Exocrines - 12

I'm doing my 'nids first because some are already painted. I'll have similiar questions for Eldar and Orks when the time comes.

Others will likely be more useful, it has been a very long time since I played Epic 40K (3rd edition - I assume you're referring to this version as that's this subforum). But since I am here first...

I do remember that Dominatrix were limited, you could only take a max of one per 2000 points. The models were a lot more common than people used them, tons of them were left over to be sold off cheap during the End Times, that's for sure. Zoanthrope's (psykers) werent especially useful in numbers but I do seem to recall them getting dotted around swarm detachments. 16 seems too many. I recall biovores being used together in numbers though, which you don't have. Hive tyrants were a very expensive way to get the mandatory synapse so we tended to use a lot more tyranid warriors than hive tyrants. Others may have done things differently but I imagine that 900 points of hive tyrants is too many. They are quite common models though. Exocrines were good (anti tank in general was good, to the extent that they modded the rules to increase the cost by +5 per shot). I dont really remember much about haruspex. You're missing harridans which appeared in all our games (though cant remember why). Likewise the titans but TBH i dont think they were actually very good, just cool to have on the table.

Do you have a copy of the armies book? There was also a nid army building article in WD #213, as well as articles in Firepower issues 3 and 4.

Now if on the other hand you are referring to Epic Armageddon then it will vary a lot by list (there are several versions as GW never made an official one). The lists used in these parts tend to be binary - either entirely vehicles + dominatrix, or mostly infantry (warriors, gaunts) with 1-2 dominatrix, a hierodule, a trygon and multiple harridans.

Thanks. First thing I've learned is that I am in the wrong sub forum as I have the Epic Armageddon rule set.

I think I can figure out what I need by hunting down the army lists. You already helped me to see I have an excess of a lot of models and a dearth of others. So I can keep many packets sealed and then trade them.
