I'm painting some miscellaneous epic figures, and wondered if I could get someone's eyes on one of these tiny figures.

This Chaos Space Marine:


He has a top-knot on his helmet. In back, I can see the rims of his shoulder pads. What is up on top of his back, just behind his head? Is his top-knot flowing back over his head? Does he have an extra armor piece up there?

It resembles the rims of his shoulder pad armor, but I don't think it is. Anybody know what it is supposed to be, and how did you paint it? Or maybe it is just that his back-pack (with the knobs on the sides) is up high?
