While E40K is still my favorite Epic, the flyer rules are dull.

Epic A did a great job, letting the models stay on the field a little longer.

Has anyone ported Epic A aircraft rules into E40K? Or used some other enhancement?

I think you could pretty much port them over. I want the ability to do turns (though since I'm using hexes, I'd use 30 degrees and 60 degrees instead of 45 and 90), and the approach and disengage moves. CAP looks good, too.

I was surprised aircraft that let off ground troops can leave at the end of the turn. I'd have guessed they had to leave the next turn. But that's not a big deal to me.

Our Epic 40k games never last more than four turns. Some go only two. So the points cost at the number of times used is next to useless.

We play that the player rolls a d6 and on a 1-3 the plane can loiter over the battlefield for another turn to represent the off chance that it didn't dump its payload/was lucky. After the bonus round, the plane has used up its fuel and has to return to base regardless of whether it attacked or intercepted.

Thanks, I was wondering whether I'd have to tweak that.

My current impression is that I don't want to bring over the Epic A system, but just the parts that make it more fun to use the miniatures.
* aircraft fly onto the board and stay through some phase (movement?)
* aircraft fly back off the board, rather than just straight up and out
* aircraft can turn, with restrictions (I am trying out hexes, and will restrict further to 30 degrees and 60 degrees, rather than 45 and 90)

I'm not sure whether CAP needs to be added in. I think so, because you don't want to put a flyer on intercept and have it wasted and unable to come in next turn.

I had assumed I would bring in the things I like and leave it as is, including the re-arming, but I think you may be right about needing a way to use them more often on the table.
