Hi all, I have thought about re-doing the 1997 epic 40000 rules in the past, but have decided to actually give it a go. My aim is to create a new rulebook, which will incorporate the original rulebook, battles book and armies book, along with any amendments and clarifications that were released in the epic magazine, the firepower magazine and white dwarf. Possibly we could include some new stuff too, such as variant army lists and the like. What I don't want to do is bog the simple game that it is in any overly complex and detailed new rules. The big attraction to epic 40k is its simplicity. That I want to keep. So the plan at the moment is to tackle each section of the book in turn: 1 The core Rules 2 Movement 3 Shooting 4 Close Assault 5 Rally Phase 6 other stuff, war engines, special rules etc Then once that is done, move onto incorporating the battles book, followed by the army lists. Hi! Having a lot of expereince with such a project keep in mind these points: 1. Re-write the rules in your own words. Do NOT copy paste the same wording from the GW rulebooks into your version. 2. Do not use any GW art. Use fan created stuff or your own. 3. List a disclaimer and acknowledgement of GW's IP and use without permission. These three simple things will keep GW from having any "issues" with your project. NetEpic has done it this way for nearly 18 years and we have been "reviewed" innumerable times and have never had a problem with them. Good luck on you endeavor! Primarch |

Primarch Indeed, the whole idea started because I have seen the excellent work you guys did with netepic Gold. I had a copy professionally printed and its great. If we can do something similar for epic40k then that will be some achievement. Steve |

Good luck with it, I do still have fond memories of the ruleset. My (unasked for!) advice would be to try to stick to the "core" stuff as much as possible, integrate the "official" rules changes and FAQs but don't be tempted to add in variant rules/units to the core - even ones you personally prefer. Some people will have a different preference and some of them reduced the very quick and simple nature Epic 40K had, because they were done to address the "Epic has lost all its flavour" complaints that eventually led to Epic Armageddon. If such things can be kept as a small number of separate modules/expansions that'd be good IMO. By the way, did anyone ever play Adeptus Titanicus II? I just checked my PDF of the rules, it is dated 27th June 2000. I can't remember a single thing about it so I'm not even sure if I ever played it. |

I dabbled a little with AT2, but didn't think it was much of an improvement over AT1. There is a grain of a workable system there though. It needs a little bit more love to make it viable IMO. ![]() Primarch |

Skullhamma wrote: Seems that EPIC 40.000 is not that dead. ![]() Yes indeed it still has a few fans who appreciate it's simple genious. A true wargame of mass combat that focuses the player in the roll of a commander of large forces in a simple straight forward easy to handle manner. I think it was the best most complete wargame ever produced by Games Workshop or any other company for that matter. I have considerred modifying the game to use the more modern formation activation system which i do like but i think it would fundamentally change the game and i'm not sure it would work without a complete re-write thus making it a different game entirely. |

This is something I will need help with, Im not sure when the updates really started to fundamentally change the game, I really want to keep the game as simple as possible, but add a few updates where they improve it, and not just change and or complicate it. The biggest area of upgrades wont be with the core rules but in adding a few more options to the army lists, for example LR Helios to name but one. Steve |

The biggest change made to the game which became an official amendment was the hit allocation system. |

That and anti tank, which simply got a big price rise across the board. That was in firepower 1. To be honest I really can't remember many others. |
