I'll give this a try. There's two armies with certain interchangeable pieces in my possession currently: Steel Legion and Baran Siegemasters. (Incidentally both are from the GW published books which is the reason for the pun in the topic subject). The Steel Legion is chipped and was painted several years ago which means it's in need of a strip and a repaint. The Siegemasters are unpainted and in varying states of assembly. While not buying new paint I'll be going for an official look with the standard Steel Legion scheme and the French in ww1 inspired look of the Siegemasters. The armies will share superheavies, some arty and Navy support which means I have to think of a way to do an in-between color scheme that will fit both armies. The primary goal will be to cover my entire IG inventory throughout 2014 with a fall back goal of a minimum of 500 points per two months. I'll get back to you with how much I need to do each period to achieve the primary after I've counted the stuff. Wish me luck! ![]() |

Good luck would painting the Super Heavy's as a separate regiment work. It fits the background and would fit the fluff. It would certainly work with the artillery and navy stuff. |

That is a good idea Llamahead. Still need to figure out something that enables the forces to look cohesive but your proposal has certainly added some degrees of freedom to the mix. |

Would a crusade badge of some description work? Using a similar sigil on every vehicle in the army is what they recommended in the old guard book if I remember rightly. |

That could definitely work, especially if combined with cohesive basing I should think. |

Alright, I've checked my files and it seems I have more than 12k points of guard that are either virgins or in need of a repaint. I stopped counting at 12k as I'm pretty sure that a thousand points a month is an attainable albeit effort intensive goal. I'll get started tonight with a recently stripped Shadowsword company courtesy of Ebay. |

Thanks! Primed and base coated the Shadows so not much to see yet. Then spent three hours assembling Ragnaroks, Siegfrieds and Bombards. I had forgotten how messy the GW stuff is/was. The plan for January is to do the Shadowswords, Ragnaroks and Bombards for 1050-1150 points. 12 pieces can't be too hard? We'll have to see. |

You could paint the super heavies in camo using one of the colors the troops are painted in to tie everything together color wise. |

Good one. I was going dark and light grey with the Shadowswords as it is the main vehicle colors. However, I'll experiment and add some blue to the light grey to tie in with the Baran trench coats. |

And we're live: Image from my blog. They came out well enough for the amount of time spent I should say. Went with the simplest camo solution. Dark Steel Legion grey and bluish Baran Siegemasters grey. Bases to be added at a later date, the goal is to paint an army, right? |

Nice start, my guard collection also doubles up as krieg and siege: more on the painting blog and by searching for 'mok's modular messy modern guard' on Google :-). Might be of some help! |
