All good stuff, will have to look into some of these. I might try making my own wash with some floor polish mixed in, especially since I'm doing more of a spot rust effect. But I do think all the examples look great!

Thanks for the info

So I'm trying to decide on basing colors options for the army, going with rectangle bases for both troops and vehicles...

one of these maybe?

Hi!

I like it, I think it makes the model based on it look very good.

2nd. How did you do it? Seems a nice effect for roads too.

Your stuff looks excellent btw!

2nd one I used the GW agrellan earth as the base, then once drive i painted over it with same dark brown type color seen in # 1. Then drybrushed with the lighter color.

Basically both bases use the two same base and highlight colors, but #2 has agrellan earth used as just a texture, instead of the actual color its made of...just paint right over that...so you could paint grey and highlight to make more cobble stone road type things. Might be a bit finicky with trying to get consistent sized cracks though....as its all based on applied thickness and drying times.

I think i may try out some flock/tuft type grasses...maybe a wasteland or desert grass. Not sure though

I also think number 2. looks great and is different from the usual flock or textured base. Excellent!

Two does look sweet.

I take back my comments about doing a desert theme. I actually think a sandy color might look nice and help the dark iron to pop against a light background.

I probably wouldn't go with gray, as the base as it is now sort of swallows the mini. If you do stick with gray, though, I'd definitely put some static grass and / or some snow on there to contrast against the models.

I've been mucking about with Agrellan Earth as well. I really like the effect you get.
A little more differentiation with the Rhino would help.

will try a lighter shade for the next test and go with the #2. I do like the effect, different from many years of the "glue and sand dip"
