Hello my friends, I'm -sort of- a newbie with a flaming desire: Salamanders. Being a newbie and with very little experience painting (ok.. no experience at all) it took me a while to finnish my first rhino and here it is: ![]() ![]() The thing here is: the result was nice but... ![]() So I decided to combine my experience as a comic artist with this painting thing and since I wanted something "hotter", I created this: ![]() ![]() These rhinos are important examples to me since they will determine the general aesthetics of the rest of my Salamanders army. What do you guys thing? *fire or no fire* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eawL6aJ2nBc |

Holy crap that's awesome! Great crisp details, good flames and symbols, etc. Love it. I'd not actually poo poo your first pic as that'd make for a fantastic rhino to schlep the gunts around in with your re-worked version is perfect for the commander! Can't wait to see more of this. |

Great feedback ![]() I'm more confident about the fire now. I'm currently working on my tacticals, I hope to show them soon. ..and still got some Land raiders to convert to helios and some whirlwinds to start painting, but really wanted to hear some opinions about this before touching anything else ![]() ![]() |

I'm building this for fun and for play. I was introduced to epic 40k last year by Settra, but since I had never played anything related to the GW universe (except Heroquest, lol) it took me a while to understand all of this .. in fact, I am still trying to keep up. I am (slowly) building my army of Salamanders, got myself a Space Marines Battle Company, Rhinos, Whirlwinds and Hunters, and Land Raiders to convert to Helios. In the meanwhile I've been playing with my friend's Ultra Marines, to learn about all of this. Rastamann, I'll try to, but to clear any doubt, I can at least explain: I basically drew the yellow flame with a 4/0 brush, outlined the yellow (Citadel Flash Gitz Yellow) with the red (Citadel Evil Sunz Scarlet) again with the 4/0 brush and then, since the red would have "died" in combination with the green, I used one of my comic strips pen to draw the black outline ![]() For the lava effect on top, it's all in brush, but I watered the red so it would nicely transform into yellow... due to the scale I thought that in the flames this process would not come out ok, so it's stricktly red over yellow. |

Thank you Apocolocyntosis, I took some shots of my salamanders tacticals. I didn't want "lava" bases here because the playing table (general context) is usually woodland scenics, or urban scenics.. it wouldn't make sense to me to have little circles of lava territory... so I thought of the devastation they would cause on their path, and I got my inspiration from WWI battlefields. These are the "simple example".. once in a while, in some bases, I think I will make small puddles, wooden paths.. they go along very well with this I think: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (still got some finnishing touches to give, but it's ok to show already ![]() |
