so, I'm frantically finishing my steel legion in the hope that I'll be able to crack on with my fists#

I've already sprayed most of the vehicles, and you may have seen my test scheme here

I've got approx 5000 points worth to paint so I might be aiming a little higher than others in my monthly quotas....

I'll be starting off with a formation of land raiders and some terminators with a chaplain in the new year!

Looking good, which list are you using for them?

probably just the EUK codex marines list, my regular opponents are all EUK players and I play regularly in EUK tournaments so it seems the most logical really.....

....plus I don't have any fancy schmancy units and vehicles to represent any of the more esoteric non-standard stuff in the NetEA list like CC termies and land raider variants

woot! progress!

I have completed January's target of a terminator formation and land raider formation (or terminators with transport)

I realised I can use these dudes as black templars with relatively little convincing also, so there's variety to be had

here's some pics, the land raiders aren't based yet but they're going on FOW medium bases, based with astrogranite (to match the termies)

C&C welcome!

next month will be some tbolts, more terminators (with librarian this time) and hopefully my supreme commander tactical formation!

Those look great! What's your painting process on those Land Raiders? I really like the worn look they've got.

wow! many thanks chaps!! glad you like them

The weathering/mud effect is really simple to achieve, I have an old drybrush which my wife managed to put in some superglue.... so I snipped the tip off, and after a bit of use, it's now spread out into a bit of a fan shape (I'll post a pic later when I'm back home)

the weathering is simply a case of using that brush and some graveyard earth (or middenheim topsoil or whatever it's called these days) I just drybrush it onto the tracks and surrounding areas, on the side panels I prefer to stiple the stuff on, although I flick the brush across the edges too.... I then give the lower areas a quick wash with devlan mud to try and darken it and add texture, I try to visualise a 'waterline' on the model where I splatter the paint, only progressively more lightly

finally after I've done that to all of the track, I do a very very light drybrush of boltgun metal across the higher parts of the track to keep a metallic look

the other stuff is actually my attempts at edge highlighting, the teeth on the assault ramp were picked out with flecks of white which makes them look a bit battered

In short, the models are sprayed army painter daemonic yellow, then given a devlan mud wash, after the wash I go over and pick out most of the flat areas in sunburst/dorn yellow, the black areas are painted black and highlighted with charadon granite, I then try to put flecks of white on the edges of armour plates and corners, it helps brighten up the model and can contribute to the worn and battered look too

when I do my other land raiders or predators, if I remember I'll take some step-by-step pictures if people are interested?

These are looking great! The worn look on the land raiders just knocked my socks off.
... requesting politely a tutorial too ... ;D

EDIT: thanks!
