This board is a brilliant idea. I'm brand new to Epic, and will be doing Marines as my first army. I'm two months late, so I guess I'll have to make up for lost time. Step 1: I need to pick a paint scheme... I'll update this soon. For my first 500 points I'll do a tac detachment and a dev detachment. I actually haven't painted 6mm before, but my favorite scale is 10mm, so it's not far off. I'm assuming the same techniques apply. |

The brighter, shinier one suits the Hawk Lords better. ![]() |

All 4 looking good up to personal preference i'd say. I'd go for one of the darker but i think you have to judge them in real life - photos always lie. I'm using the GW textured paint recently - works for me. I'll prob buy some of the desert colour too (much as it pains me to admit it.) |

Go get some Vallejo sandy paste or black pumice and just squirt a few drops of brown (or your choice of color) paint into it. 10 times the amount for the same cost. |

By brighter one, which one specifically are you referring to? |

From L to R in photo #1 - either 2 or 3. |

I'm a strong advocate of tactical and camo colors for all my units. Your Marines don't look bad to me ... subdued pink and purple are actually some of the desert camo colors some UK units used in WWII ... |

Alright, finally have some more stuff up. Next up Land Raiders, and hopefully when my lil dudes arrive, some marines to fill out those Rhinos.

After seeing a lot of people's work around here, I don't think my current scheme pops enough. The transition from 28/15/10mm to 6mm is a pretty big jump. I've decided to add an additional highlight to make everything more extreme to better pop from more than a foot away. Here's a test stand, what do you guys think? Going back and adding another highlight to my vehicles will suck, but better now than later right?

Unfortunately I really can't make out any details on those shots but I will speak from personal experience that in the jump to 6mm the highlights tend to work better when more extreme than you'd do in 28mm. I was more happy with the results when I'd go for a really noticeable extreme edge highlight, especially on vehicles, for boldly painted armies (Marines in particular). The fact you are "thinking you might" is enough to make me say go for it. Your mind is looking for an excuse to do the effect ![]() |
