Post subject:  TOEG 2012 - Ulthwe Eldar

So, i have decided to do something other than Marines. Im hoping i have my standard 3k list painted by mid April ready for Open War, and id quite like a second army, so i have some variation for my weekly gaming nights. I took another royal beating on Sunday at the hands of Dave's Ulthwe, and it has inspired me to give Eldar a go, like Dave, using the Ulthwe list.

With 1st April fast approaching and the fact i have no models to begin painting, i better get an order in sometime soon for some models. Hopefully, within the first week of April i will have something to begin painting. Ive not decided on a colour scheme yet, i had thought about an army of pink pansey space elves terrorising the table tops, but im not sure, as i also like the idea of a simple blue and white army as well.

If i manage to get some models within the next couple of days, i hope to get a test model or two posted up.

Cheers! Im going to take a gander over at your thread now.

Ive been toying about with lists and i keep coming back to the same list Dave used:-

Mounted Guardians - 375 pts
Mounted Guardians - 375 pts
Guardians + Wraithguard + Seer Council - 450 pts (BTS & Sup Com)
Aspect Host - 250 pts (think i will go for Warp Spiders)
Rangers - 100 pts
War Walkers - 200 pts
3 Falcons + 2 Firestorm - 250 pts
3 Falcons + 2 Firestorm - 250 pts
3 Falcons + 2 Firestorm - 250 pts
Vampire - 200 pts
Nightwings - 300 pts

Which is 3k on the nose! My gaming group love playing 4k games, so i am also thinking about that. Id love to take a Warlock Titan, however it would mean dropping the Nightwings from the list and i like Nightwings! By including the Warlock, im left with 450 pts and i 'think' i have enough AA coverage in the Falcons. I was thinking either another unit of mounted guardians plus fleshing out the Rangers or two units of jet bikes and a gate, i just cant decide!

Schedule of Painting:-

April - Mounted Guardians + Rangers
May - Mounted Guardians + War Walkers
June - 2 units of Falcons/Firestorms
July - Guardians + Wraithguard + Seer Council
August - Falcons/Firestorms + Aspects
September - Vampire + Nightwings
October - Warlock Titan
November - Additional units to flesh out 4k

The formation is only 425, the other 25 points went on an Exarch for the Banshees.

are warp spiders the best choice to stick in the vampire?

I know they have their lovers and haters, but I'm pretty sure they'd do better out of a gate......

Still, this is a painting blog not a list discussion.... I've been on the recieving end of this army and it's a killer all-round build! looking forward to seeing more Eldar plogs for ToEG! :)

They have Jump Packs, so they get the 15cm disembark, even if they don't get the 30cm Infiltrate.

Looking forward to this project.

Nice! Great to see another Ulthwe player starting, that's for sure. Is that an EpicUK list you're using? I'm just trying to square the points costs for a couple of the units. I do keep meaning to start my own Ulthwe TOEG, perhaps after I've fixed the car, fixed my bike, built some lights and written some papers :)

At the moment, i am not 100% sure what i will be using to come out of the Vamp. I faced Banshee's, which hit really hard, but then are pretty stranded. I guess it is nice as a potential BTS killer, but it is something i will trial during games once they are completed.

It certainly is the Epic-UK list i am using. Its what my gaming group primarily use and what ill be using if my tournament experiences are enjoyable ones ;)

fair dos, both have their plus sides.

what's the aspect fm size for EUK Ulthwe? I found that 4 warp spiders in a vampire was pretty useful for picking off weak or broken fms and that 8 (in the Biel Tan) list can be an absolute killer if used right. Being able to disembark 15cm rather than 5 can be pretty useful for staying out of an AA bubble but still getting into clipping range, plus the infiltrate means that they have a larger threat radius after the assault.

Got home today to a little pressie so i can now begin working on my army!

Ive just got to work out what bases look best. I was going to use some 2p's but i think there a tiny bit small! So i am thinking of using fow bases. I pick my warhosts up at Open War too, so hopefully i wont fall behind in the first month!
