Having successfully concluded the first ToEG challenge, I am on to the next one. The results of the first one can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=119&t=18817 By popular vote I will focus on the Squats for this series. All models are acquired and mostly based at this point so we can get started right away. As before, I will be crossposting from my Blog: http://wargamingworkshop.wordpress.com and make this first post a "living" status update (very satisfying to see the Chaos ToEG post turn from all red to almost all green over time). There doesn't seem to be a "final" Squat army list out there. I therefore tried to find model counts that would be usable by the different core lists (Demiurg & the two Squat Stronghold lists). I am using Thurgrim v1.0 for point values. [Living Progress Update]: green = completed, orange = assembled/based, red = pre-assembly Brotherhood Infantry - 1090 points / 42 models 1 Living Ancestor 1 Lord 11 Warriors 6 Termite Tunnelers 1 Lord 11 Warriors 6 Spartan Transports 5 Robots Hearthguard Infantry - 600 points / 12 models 6 Hearthguard 6 Exo Armour Hearthguard Berzerker Brotherhoods - 275 points / 14 models 12 Berzerker 2 Mole Tunnelers Thunderer Batteries - 600 points / 12 models 12 Thunderer Grand Batteries - 1400 points / 36 models 18 Mole Mortars 18 Thudd Guns Biker Guild - 1570 points / 39 models 3 Guild Master 18 Bikes 12 Trikes 6 Hearthguard Biker War Engines - 3025 points / 14 models 1 Leviathan 1 Cyclops 1 Colossus 1 Iron Hawk Gyrocopter 2 Land Trains (each with Dragon, Bomb, Mortar and Berzerker Car) 1 Hellbore Tunneler Heavy Artillery Battery - 575 points / 7 models 3 Goliath Mega-Cannons 4 Thunderfire Guns Squat Air Force - 760 points / 8 models 6 Iron Eagle Gyrocopter 3 Overlord Armoured Airships |

This ToEG blog will be a lot more boring than the Chaos one... There is very little variety in the Squat army and practically no conversions. I am batch-painting the force in blocks of 50 (infantry, bikers, light artillery, rest). Right now I am half-way through the infantry (basecoat, faces, sleeves) and will try the rest next week (weapons, gloves&boots&belts). Boring to paint, boring to follow ![]() |

So do I .... Unfortunately this project has been a complete disaster so far. My past armies either had repetitive simple patterns (SM and IG) or complex varied patterns (Orks and Chaos). The Squats are the exact some painting pattern repeated for 150+ bases. I am staring at a block of 48 infantry bases right now. They are missing gloves, boots and beards. It's pure mental torture to do those for ~250 models. The actual work isn't too bad, but the motivational barrier is huge. It has even ground my remaining Chaos efforts to a halt (the last two models are getting a single paint layer every other day...). I will try to get at least one unit done tonight just to reach some kind of milestone... |

I know exactly what you mean When I started my Squats army, the Inf. and Bikes were pure pain to paint but with some Units done you get more motivated and faster in painting. I stopped painting the boots What me also helps: -paint small groups of Inf. or bikes not more than 10 stands at once -paint vehicles between the Inf. and bikes to keep you motivated they go faster ![]() - paint not ONLY Squats e.g. I often paint 2 Squat units and a Tau unit at once for variety keep on |

FINALLY! All the darn Squat infantry is finished. Static grass will go on tomorrow and pics will follow shortly afterwards. 400 little beards, 800 boots, 800 gloves... What an ordeal. 1 Living Ancestor 2 Lords 22 Warriors 12 Thunderer 12 Berzerker Crews for 18 Mole Mortars, 18 Thudd Guns, 6 Tarantulas, 3 Goliath and 6 Thunderfire guns Next up are the ~50 Bikers and the light artillery pieces (Mole Mortars and Thudd Guns). |

I hate Squats... I really do. In my darkest moments I wish that they would all be devoured by Tyranids... oh, wait... After the (near) completion of the Lost and the Damned Chaos army for the TacComs Tale of Epic Gamers, I foolishly decided to continue painting 6mm EPIC models. By popular vote I was encouraged to select the Squats as my next project. Squats are painful to paint (well). While there is a lot less infantry than in the Chaos force, they ALL look the same. No problem, I thought, I painted Space Marines and other such uniform armies before. How bad can it be? Well, each Squat has boots, trousers, vests, shirtsleeves, face, beard, gloves, gun and cap. That means painting 800 boots, 400 trousers, etc. Worst of all was the mistake to paint everything in one assembly line to "stay consistent". Motivation killer... Anyhow, after a 30 days absence from the blog, I finally have some progress to declare. The Squat infantry and light artillery is done! To keep my sanity and make you suffer a bit like I suffered, I shall post individual units every days or so. For starters, below is the first Warrior Brotherhood with Lord and Living Ancestor. ![]() ![]() |

No comments? No feedback? Seems like nobody likes Squats... I really need a motivation boost with this army... |
