Well now. I thought I'd pre-emptively post up my thread.

I've got a few armies I will be working on in the coming ToEG.

The Steel Dogs - co-stars of a recent battle report which you will hopefully get to see soon, I've got the Battle Company painted along with many of the supporting elements. I need to finish a few bases and add a few more vehicles - and their Thunderhawks. Also the eventual poster-boys for the Apocrypha of Skaros.

The Stone Hearts - my sort-of oldest chapter, and my current favorite. Though I intend to use them with my Rogue Trader list, I'm going to get them ready to be a standard Codex army first (this will by me time to remake the list, which I lost somehow, and line up some miniatures to be mercenaries). Battle Company with supporting elements.

World Eaters - Part of my Heresy-era project/plot to lure the impressionable youth into Epic. Basically a company plus a number of Land Raiders and superheavies. Will probably use the Black Legion list.

Khazad Mining Regiment - Eventual source of a Guard list - basically, I like some of the Squat models, but some of them are ridiculous. Others are virtually impossible to come by. So the Khazad Mining Regiment will be a mix of Guard and Squats and be possible to use as either. In my case, it's mostly Squats with some Russes and Hellhounds.

Legio Latrodectus - One of my two Titan Legions. The Steel Dogs and Stone Hearts need support, and the World Eaters have a Legio Mortis Reaver to call if they need it.

I may not get to all of them, and there's a decent chance I'll switch my affections partway through, but such is life.

Legio Latrodectus ? Into spiders, are we ?

I would suggest Legio Teraphosa maybe, Latrodectus are sure lethal but small, more evocative of Officio Assassinorum to me. But That does still sound good obviously :)

Well, I'm drawing a lot of inspiration from Battletech's Black Widow Company. :) My other Titan Legion is the Legio Boreas, which draws from the Northwind Highlanders.

my first thought too.....

I think legio atraxus would be a good compromise..... reasonably large and very deadly (not to mention aggressive....)

loving the spider knowledge round these parts!

Well, I kept and bred tarantulas for years, although I've stopped quite a few years ago now :)

A long time ago, I had all my titans named that way (Lasiodora, Teraphosa, Brachypelma, etc...). I still don't know hat theme I'll chose when I'll repaint them.

At the peak of my craze, I had almost 30 species of tarantulas, mostly young immature ones, so not really tarantulas sized; but I brought a Lasiodora parahybana and an Acanthoscuria geniculatta from newborn to adult size (from 1cm to about 8, body only), several species of Brachypelma, let's see... smithi, bohemi, albopilosa, emilia, auratum, klaasi (now a Brachypelmides I believe), and another one, very nice, whose name I can't remember at the moment. Black abdomen with red hairs.
I also had a Gramostola pulchra (gorgeous beast, but a veeeery slow growth), a Chtomatopelma cyanopubecens, and several smaller species, some Avicularia (versicolor and metallica), and I had several trapdoor spiders, which are not technically teraphosidae but still fascinating beasts, including the quite large Stasimopsus robertsi, almost red in colour. I also had a few Latrodectus as a matter of fact, and I kept several other kinds of arachnids for some time. An amblybigyd from Guyana, another one (probably a phrynus of undetermined specie) from Africa, several scorpions, a few uropygid... Then I started insects, with several phasmids, mantids, and I finally got into beetles, which were my true speciality for quite a few year. During a year or two, I think I had the largest installation of Beetle breeding in France.

Actually over a period of a few year I have had almost all kind of very strange pets.

I did stop all that some time after the birth of my son.

And now, I'll stop derailing SK thread :)

But I'd be happy to prolong the conversation via PM or mail if you're into this other kind of strange hobbies :)

edit : oh, and I forgot : I never got stung or bitten by anything serious.

Why? Was it laughing when it bit you?

Hey, it's nice to have people talking.

Talking directly about what I'm doing is merely a bonus. ;)

Anyway, wildly premature update. Project #1 is the Stone Hearts - I'm sick of the Steel Dogs for the moment, and I want to get back to painting dark green, which is what I usually enjoy most anyway. :)

I finished spraying some of the Stone Hearts tonight (a Tac detachment, a converted Whirlwind, and two Thunderhawks). Another bunch are soaking in acetone (three Whirlwinds, another Thunderhawk, some old-style Annihilators and some Gyrocopters). I'm waiting on a package of Epic characters for the command squad (the current one is plastic, and thus kinda fragile) - they hopefully will be here in a few weeks.

I've gone back to my preferred painting method - basecoat black, cover in appropriate color of paint, add details. Complicated? No. Perfect? God no. But it's a lot more reliable for me than basecoating in the primary color of the miniature, for all that I'm not wholly displeased with how the Steel Dogs turned out.

The Stone Hearts, at the moment, are intended to be as follows:
Tactical Detachment A (Captain with Command Squad)
Tactical Detachment B: (with Librarian)
Bike Detachment
Bike Detachment (with Chaplain)
Devastator Detachment
Land Speeder Detachment
"Land Speeder" Detachment (actually Gyrocopters)
Whirlwind Detachment
Whirlwind Detachment
Vindicators
Terminators
Predator Annihilators
Hunters
Thunderhawk
Thunderhawk
Thunderhawk

Possible Associated Projects:
-I may paint up some Termites in their livery (count as Drop Pods)
-I also may convert up a Strike Cruiser for them out of an Imperial Cruiser

Using the current point values for the Codex SM list (as I recall them), that's about 4000 points. So enough to keep me busy for 8 months of challenge. Assuming I don't get bored. ;)

The IA for the Stone Hearts is HERE, if anyone's interested.

Well, today I got all the models that weren't soaking in acetone greened. The ones that were look far too much like they did when they went in - it's clearly time to invest in some more furniture stripper. And some rare earth magnets, on an unrelated note.

I did the metallics on one base of bikes, a Whirlwind chassis, and the two Thunderhawks. Since I also did the grey on the Thunderhawks, I figured I might as well show them to people. Sorry for the mediocre lighting

Image

I've since done touch-ups to fix the more egregious lousy points. They're also (eventually) going to get port and starboard lights and proper canopies. Still, I'm fairly pleased with them - not bad for an hour or two.

Brake fluid? It is probably cheaper.
