Bad. Ass.

Volrath, could you tone this whole "paint like a bad ass" thing down a little? You're making the rest of us L.A. guys look bad.

ya im going to try a tan or lighter style color with that effect to bring out the IW colors better. Prolly should have tested more on a smaller, less centerpiece, type model. haha, ohwell

Heres a new test for a base, and a painted dozer blade.

What do you think of this lighter base?

Mini looks great, realistic old metals. The base looks better than the last one, but I'm not sure it complements the minis colours as well as it could. Have you tried them on lava bases? With the crackles in the base, lava should work well. Well done.

Mini looks great. Base looks great. Lava is a cliche ;-)

Base works really well, might have to 'borrow' that for my loyalist marines!

Another excellent model - the dozer blade works real good. Outstanding.

I think you've nailed it with the base. This base makes the model stand out so much more. I actually think you could even stand to go a shade lighter.

I agree that lava is cliche... and I also always wonder how the troops and tanks don't melt.

XM: That's because they're built from pure Handwavium. ;D

Volrath: Much better base to show off your fantastic painting. I think you can go even lighter on them (or go dark rich earth if you wanted to go the opposite direction for dried mud) to make the contrast work. Great job.

Oh, and I just noticed the model has one of the Dozer blades you made and printed shapeways. Very nice!
