Added some heavy support marines and transports for the troops painted earlier - several types of rhinos and "Raccoon" pattern Spartans.

Now at
325+265+200+200+275+275+200=1740 / 2990 for the Ropecon list and
850+275+250=1375 extra stuff that just happened to end up getting painted.

Full army pic of everything completed so far.

Kind of dark around midnight, I'll try to get pictures with better lighting tomorrow.

I'm quite smitten with these - are the flyers metal or resin? Metal flyers are hard to balance sometimes.

Those are shapeways prints. With heavy cleanup using a modeling knife

Love the group shots, really dramatic against the snow bases. Great work!

I kind of experimented with different materials, ordered a few models in each material available

White strong & flexible was awful: lots of texture, can't sand, can't cut, can't polish. I ended up bagging those and putting them in storage, but I doubt I will ever touch those again.

There wasn't much of a difference between frosted detail and frosted ultra detail - there was a much more noticeable difference _between_ each model in the same material. There's a lot of variance in the printing quality. Worst was one of the storm chickens that I've now painted for the WE army - lots of excess material, clogged detail etc.

Here's a picture of a fire turkey, mid-cleanup - in frosted detail. You can see the texture that's the result of the printing process in the picture.

I tried several methods for cleaning the models - sanding and polishing with a dremel (well, a bosch in this case, but still the same thing) didn't yield spectacular results - erased all detail.

Best end result I got by spraying the model with white spray paint to be able to see where the texture I want to get rid of is, scraping that off with the edge of a modelling knife, then spraying again and scraping again a few times.

Do you consider it worth the cost? I find it quite expensive for such an uncertain result... They do look good on your pics though!

Worth it is very relative.

The white strong & flexible ones definately were not worth it since those will never get painted - that was a waste of money.

For the others, the price is expensive compared to the quality of the end result, but still, this stuff isn't exactly readily available otherwise - I don't really have access to most of the forumware I've seen other people have. I did get what I was trying to buy, so in that sense I'm happy with the purchase.

And another week. Still four weeks to go until the event.

Added four land raiders, four rampagers with legion champion, Angron's retinue - three red butcher terminators, five thudd guns, five rapiers and a stormbird. Project is now almost finished, only missing a single tank and a spaceship. :)

Most of the stuff is still missing transfers and freehand icons - I just ordered a set (and the four heresy books) from Forge World, but those haven't arrived yet. Next week perhaps.

The support weapons are not really a formation since there should be six of each... I just didn't really have enough models - I figured that those would go nicely with the 30k theme though. Bought some more thudd guns off ebay, but there was really no rapiers available, £5 for a model plus £9 for shipping is a bit steep...

So, now I'm at

325+265+200+200+275+275+450+290+450=2730 / 2990 for the Ropecon list and
850+275+250+250+250+320=2195 extra stuff that just happened to end up getting painted.

Stormbird - formerly a TH transporter, Space Wolf Thunderhawk for scale. I used the FW picture of the 'Sokar' pattern Stormbird as a reference, but felt that the craft should be slightly larger, so I made it longer. The model does not feel yet quite finished, but I'm not really sure what to do to it... any ideas?

Thanks to Maashes for the transporter model!

I should also soon decide if I should try weathering the tanks - currently everything looks like its straight off the assembly line... I've never really done weathering on models of this scale though....

"Thanks to Maashes for the transporter model!"

I am happy to see it made it to you. I was unsure how the forwarder would work out. Pretty fast service.
