More bulk troops. Starting on the vehicles now (all in bulk... probably a mistake).

Can i ask, how do you do the bases to hide the flat part of the epic models? Or do you chop them off at the feet and glue them that way?

Basing instructions are on this page: http://wargamingworkshop.wordpress.com/ ... rmageddon/

Basically the same for all my Epic armies. At this scale, consistent and realistic bases are probably as important as the models (if not more). So I try to do them nicely.

With the dreaded Squats completed, it's time to go full steam ahead with the Eldar. I am doing the vehicles in bulk so here is the horde of purple:

There is actually more work here than the photo shows, mostly because the underside of each vehicle is already painted (so that I can glue them onto their bases). Topside and detailing is next.

Ditto on the purple - that's a lot of the stuff applied. Do you actually basecoat with the base already painted? That's scary! Looking good.

Are you trying to complete your TOEG in one month just to make the rest of us look bad? ;)

Wow- that is an amazing amount of painted Eldar. This will be another stunning army.

You did realise that TOEG is only 500 points per month? Not complete army?

:)

Great stuff

James

I am a mass production kind of a guy - what can I say.

My painting process for this was as follows:
0. Prep model (flash removed, drill out engines, etc.)
1. Spraypaint black (both sides, models in parts and removed from base)
2. Airbrush a 1:1 mix of Liche Purple and Skull White (both sides)
3. Wash both sides Leviathan Purple twice (let dry in between, do one side at a time, use the brush to dab away excess wash on the flat surfaces)
4. Paint underside detail Dheneb Stone, then Devlan Mud Wash, then Skull White hightlights/wetbrush
5. Paint underside engines and other detail Vallejo Brass, then Devlan Mud Wash
6. Glue everything onto the skimmer base (my regular bases with a steel wire post).

At this point I can paint the top while on the base (for easier handling). The underside work is not visible on the overhead picture but you can see it on the tabletop.

I will now manually highlight some of the panels on top and then detail. The Falcon with the black turret zone is my prototype model (3rd in the second row from the bottom). The models are actually higher contrast and show more shading on the purple already. My flash just wiped some of that out. Incidental, the purple on the guardians is exactly the same but there the pic makes it look darker... (same painting steps as well).

I need some inspiration. I finished the first test vehicles:

The models are more contrasty in real life (flash + bad lighting conditions). I am looking for inspirations for the cockpit windows. Options would be:

Blue like the gems
Green (I use a heavily shaded down Scorpion Green effect for the energy/prism areas on some vehicles)
Shiny Black
Something else (ideas?)

Blue, but maybe a bit darker than the gems.

If you like contrast, bright yellow with a flesh or chestnut wash.
