Thanks,
The reds a bit complicated, mostly because I wasn't quite sure where I was aiming at when I painted my first model and to keep things consistant I've just followed the same method. Even though it is totally ounter intuitive. It does look pretty nice in person though, my camera skills just mash the subtle shades into one though
1/. Chaos black basecoat
2/. coat of dark flesh (or in my case an equivalent coat d'arms colour - Red Brown)
3/. 50:50 drybrush of mechrite red (foundation) and dark flesh
4/. drybrush mechrite red
5/. drybrush 50:50 mecrite red and blood red
6/. heavy wash of badab black - This brings the highlights down a bit but seems to create a more graduated effect, still leaving the lightest highlight shinning through
7/. light drybrush mechrite red
8/. painted highlights in blood red
9/. (optional) Another fairly heavy wash of red to tie the colours together a little more on larger, flatter areas
Most importantly though I use a wet pallete which is made from an avatars of war blister pack, the foam from the same and a roll of grease proof paper. With all the mixing of colours I do it keeps them fresh and useable for ages. I swear I've returned after 24 hrs and still found paint wet.
It's obviously over complicated but I've never experimented to see which steps I could get away without and without knowing any local painters it's a bit hard to bounce ideas.
