TOEG is Tale of Epic Gamers

It's in the same vein as the classic tale of four gamers white dwarf article. Everybody who signs up has a challenge to complete an army by the end of the year, usually with a target for the end of each month such as paint 500 pts or 2 units.

The idea is that it gives everybody the impetous to paint up their armies and also get to to show them off to the epic community.

Briefly - it's based on the old White Dwarf Tale of 4 gamers: 4 (or more, in our case) (or less too!) people set themselves to paint a certain value (currency or points) of models, these being part of a valid army list for Epic, every month. At the end of the month you take photos of what you've done or complain that life and the universe have treated you unfairly and you did not reach your quota.
This goes on for around 4 months or as long as you wish. No one wins anything other than bragging rights ;)
EDIT - oh eck, ceimeifukan beat me to it. Ah well....

I know we don't normally, but we could have a little thing at the end, "best army", "best war engine", "best character stand" etc?

I don't think MoK took part last year. This army was from the year before.

I won't be the only person to finish an army this year, though. Because I'm going to sit this one out, I'm afraid. I'm just finishing off one army already (Chaos) and once that's done I'm going to take a bit of a break from painting Epic stuff. And I don't have the money to be starting a new army right now, either.

Good luck to everyone that does take part!

Epic scale trophies could be made by mounting bronze/silver/gold sprayed figures on tiny circular pieces of wood. Fittingly, they would be the smallest trophies in the world... Just for a laugh! :)

Cheers

I like this idea :) I'll try my hand at making some trophies and post photos :)

of course, the problem is that if several of us try to make trophies, we'll have to elect the trophiest trophy and possibly even reward the best ones with... trophies :D

Recursive painting, here we come !

I must confess I love the concept :P

Is this is needed as epiccomp submission begins about when TOEG ends iirc? Don't mind, just we'd end up with both happening at a similar time.

Updating first post with brief explanation of what TOEG is along lines vanvlak and ceimeifukan have given.

Do we want to have separate TOEG titled threads for each person like last year and then a central thread with links to them all? or all submit work into a single uber-plog, or what?

It's not greatly needed, but it might be fun.

Another alternative is to try and organise a get-together for as many participants as possible, to play all the newly-complete armies in a tournament against each other... the majority of participants so far are either UK or European, so that could be possible?

I believe the NetEA project will be setting up a website for the completed armies book soon, the TOEG could possibly piggyback on that site.
