Bleeurrgh! Painting infantry drives me crazy!

Right well I thought I'd better put something on here in case I end up forgetting about it. The infantry's a real slog for me but I'm grinding through it, as a distraction I've painted up my second proxy thunderbolt and I've lined up my reward when I finish this latest batch of infantry which is going to be a platoon of converted stormhammers to proxy as macharius.

I've had the conversions sitting in a box for a couple of years waiting to paint them and forgot. I've only just found them and can't wait to get through the infantry to show them off.

So no pics for now but hopefully it wont be too long before I have another update.

Eagle is a good name but unfortunately it's a little to imperium sounding for what I have in mind, "Black Hawk" might work but feels too helicoptery

What about "Merlin", "Osprey", or "Raptor"? Of course, all these have real life equivalents too.

I can relate to that.

I tend to cram as many tanks in as I can to most lists because I hate painting 6mm infantry. It hurts my eyes.

:(

Hey All,

Well I've finally got an update to make (a couple of days late but who's counting), I've been holding off because I didn't want to disapoint Oberst again but at last I can use this picture.

Image

I've defeated my own personal daemon and completed painting my infantry, it only took just over 2 years (see second pic). That said though I think I managed to keep the colours consistent so it could have been worse

Moving on now, I've a whole host of models and cool ideas but I think I will go with these stormhammers next, the idea is that I could proxy them as a macharius tank squadron or perhapps if I counted each turret as an individual tank get away with using them as executioners.

Image

Speaking of which, I have a full squadron of forumware leman russ tanks which I bought when they were still in the list but have subsequently been dropped. I reckon with the proper application of magnets I could get six executioners out of them, what are you're thoughts one the style?

Right well time to break out the varnish and dull coate and get everything I've painted recently properly protected.

I'm diggin those tanks, they are exactly something the cogboys would make for themselves, with ommnissiahs blessing of course. But i would assume they would have different kit because they make the things.

Keep up the awesome conversions.

Right well I need the help of you kind ladies and gentlemen again I'm afraid.

I've got my stormhammers (Ryza executioner pattern???) to the following point, excuse the shininess that's just the washes and I haven't put any Matte varnish on it yet.

My problem is that the turrets get lost in the rest of the red, at least I think they do. Any tips on how to make them look better, I've stuck to a fairly tight colour scheme with my models so there's a fairly dark grey I can use, where do you think I could get away with using it?

Cheers

I like to highlight red using a hot orange with red then blending to a fine highlight of white (blend white and orange - blending white with red will give a pink highlight which is not a good look lol). This would probably help to lift the turrets up? :)

Maybe a black on the spar that seperates the 2 green pieces of the plasma guns? OR you could do the yellow and black hazards on the tip of the plasma guns, i think that would look pretty cool. also maybe to break the red up a little make a unit symbol for them on the side of the tread?

Hazard strip is an awesome idea. :)

The words Stormhammer and Ryza in the same sentence was interesting enough, but then i saw the pictures. I so want some!! They look awesome.

In terms of painting a dark grey would certainly be a nice contrast. Maybe not the tip of the plasmagun but the barrel and/or turret might work in grey. Look forward to seeing more of these.

Thanks

James
