They definitely do not feel like the same game - 2nd Edition Space Marine was far more about making the game have a particular flavor than in balancing it down to the quarter of a point. NetEA is more about knowing you’ll have balanced tank forces lined up before they rush at each other. My biases a...

From the depths of the 1990s come the Blood Angels!

First Detachment, 6th (Tactical) Company.

Fair point - I might call what I’m attempting a “Creative Reconstruction,” based on what figures Vanguard has made so far. For example, 3mm bikers are unlikely to be available to me any time soon so I’m substituting jetbikes. Not canon, but still. In re: Scouts it occurs to me that they could be use...

Thanks guys! I managed to get my first Tactical Company primed and ready to paint up. And I’m getting new unit and detachment cards and order markers custom printed and diecut - I drew them myself, so that they include all the silhouettes and game stats. The bases, by the way, are 1/16” laser cut pl...

So I’m using NetEpic to do what will probably be the culminating project of my 40K hobby career - I’m reconstructing Second Edition, including battle cards, etc., with 3mm scale figures. I made an abortive attempt at this some time back but the advent of Vanguard’s “Dominion” line has made it possib...

I just found, after thirty years or so, my copy of White Dwarf #142. This was the one that started my love of epic gaming because it contained the painting guide for the “Studio Army,” a giant 6000-point Blood Angels army. With the advent of 3mm scale More Epic Than Epic from Vanguard, I’m celebrati...

Not exactly miniatures but this is the map of the campaign I’m planning.

Elvish Eagle Riders, flying Western War Eagles they have raised from eaglets as mounts and companions. They are the “Light” flying forces of Tanith’s vassal, the Principality of Ulsarin.

The line is amazing. Anyone who decries “lack of detail” in 3mm scale has not seen these yet. They’re actually almost intimidatingly detailed. I have it on good authority that dwarves and dark elves are imminent.

At least that’s what the elvish empire of Tanith of the outre-mer will call this conflict. It’s the first time since the start of the Ninth Epoch that an elder empire has mustered an army to make war in the Old World, and they are not doing it in half measures. The main forces of Tanith and its vari...

Just got these and couldn’t resist painting them right away. And since I found a minor lull in my over the top workload I’m all in! I’m basing these as generically as I can to play with a variety of rules. Probably will start off with Dragon Rampant until I build up a larger set of forces. Bases fro...

You could look into Noble Knight. They are a US outlet for Alternative Armies and several other UK companies among hundreds of others, and I’ve had nothing but good experiences with their service.

The idea is that a force this size is sufficient to cause havoc in the outlying parts of the County of Edessa, and when the 3mm scale Undead come out, the real sieges and grand battles will begin in earnest.

Here’s some painting, prototyping a sufficiently Byzantine color palette. Insofar as the byzantines had a color palette at all.
