I was nudged to toss in my 2c, so here goes For reference, I'm relatively new to EA; having only played 11 or 12 games with the Tau. I like many of the changes to the new list. Although I sympathize with those who had modeled up Vespid or Moray, I'm happy I no longer need to worry about how to effec... |

(Dobbsy @ Sep. 01 2006,02:25)QUOTEThat's just it Lion, we aren't. We are building an Epic army and it doesn't necessarily have to perform in exactly the same way as 40K - just take a few nods from the 40K direction. Too many people make that assumption and it really hampers development IMO. I'm not... |

(Evil and Chaos @ Aug. 31 2006,18:37)QUOTEthese varients are in fact the very latest models of Hammerhead, seen for the first time on Taros. The Taros campaign is a "historical campaign". The story is essentially a history book, detailing a campaign that happened in the past. By my understanding, t... |

(Dobbsy @ Aug. 31 2006,18:37)QUOTEOk I'll defer. I just hate getting comments in game like "3+?!! Not even termies get that, that's a bit wrong." As Moscovian said above, 4+ Reinforced armor is better than 3+ armor. Not only because 4+ Reinforced will stop 75% of hits while 3+ only stops 67%, but w... |

(Lion in the Stars @ Aug. 30 2006,20:28)QUOTEThe short answer is that Hammerheads have the same armor save in Epic that Predators do. And this is the point I was trying to make. In E:A, Predators and Hammerheads are equally durable. Yet in 40K, a Hammerhead is 1.75 times as durable as a Predator. W... |

As those who play Tau in 40K know, the Mechanized approach has gained significant favor since the release of the 4th edition rules which eliminated screening, placed increased emphasis on mobility (missions), and allowed rapid-fire after moving (dismounting). A large part of this popularity is due t... |

(Hena @ Aug. 26 2006,13:11)QUOTEAlso one might make a special rule addition to say that the drones don't prevent garrison if added to otherwise garrisonable unit? I think this is a great idea. I also think the exception should apply to Teleport as well. Stealths should be able to buy Gun Drones and... |

I don't particularly want RST's to become free. This means that their utility will be built into the cost of the other Tau units, making everything else slightly more expensive. Then, if you find yourself in a campaign setting as the attacker (where it makes no sense to have RST's in use), you end u... |

QUOTE Perhaps but is it needed? That's what needs to be determined.
If Tau can achieve a "sufficient" level of AA cover with just Skyrays and Baricudas, I'm fine with that.

(Hena @ Aug. 15 2006,04:05)QUOTEOne thing to remember. 40k doesn't have the abstraction of AP / AT / MW / TK / AA. For this reason some more direct examples of 40k doesn't work in epic. What your saying is that any weapon in 40k can fire at aircraft. This isn't true in epic. So in epic only some un... |

To add my thoughts... In the 40k fluff, the only units which are listed as having dedicated anti-aircraft capacity are the Skyray and the Baricuda. I think the first question that needs to be answered is can the Tau list be made to work if these were the only 2 sources of AA in the entire list? Perh... |

I'm also curious about garrisons. Do folks find garrisons useful in the Tau army? Which units do you garrison? What purpose do you hope to achieve by garrisoning them? Is there a strategy to placing objectives for advantagous garrison placement? |

Tactica, thanks very much for the info. You confirmed many things that had been bouncing around my head and gave me a few new ideas as well! We have been playing that a result of 1-0 is a victory. I'll bring that up next time. Your comment about being sure to activate before your opponent is interes... |

This topic originated out of a request for more information which I received in the "Changes for version 4.4.1" thread. I mentioned that I'd been having poor luck with the Tau in the 10 or so games I've played with them so far and Chroma/Tactica requested a bit more info. So here we go! We usually p... |

(Invid @ Aug. 09 2006,20:37)QUOTEI think the Tau are a little over powered in their firing potential and should be neutered a little. It's interesting to hear you say that. I consider myself a "decent" wargamer yet in the past three months or so since I've had my Tau, I've won 1 out of the 10-12 ga... |
