Yes, bad things can turn out to yeild a potential advantage. That's true of any army or situation. I've had games where getting a formation broken by fire was the only thing that saved it from complete destruction. Bein able to wring advantage out of bad situations is part of how the gam... |

I've never wanted mine to break.
I've always used them as part of a co-ordinated assault plan. Doesn't work very well when they are broken! |

as a general rule, it's not worth shooting at Monoliths unless you can pour enough firepower into them to pop a Monolith. That's easy enough to do with single Monoliths, and less so with the larger, more supported Monolith formations. Mostly that's because, as you pointed out, you're better off just... |

Quote: (Evil and Chaos @ Feb. 25 2010, 09:05 ) Being broken in general is a good thing for Necron monoliths, as they can: - Re-position their portal without needing to spend an activation. - Phase out at the end of the turn and then very likely teleport somewhere entirely new in the following t... |

sorry for taking to long to weigh in on the discussion. The weather has been monstrous, and has had a negative impact on my internet ability. I haven't read entirely through all this yet, but I'm working on it Let me say that I don't like any of the 3 options Mosc put out. Not because there's ... |

1.) I do not worship Jervis. I have no other gods before me. 2.) Necron rules rather specifically state that they are, in fact, placed into the reserves when they are off-board. 3.) Necron rules also specifically state that they rally at the end of turn just like everything else. So, if... |

Quote: (Moscovian @ Jan. 22 2010, 16:12 ) Huh?  Really?  Is there anything on the NetERC sheet or the 2008 Errata on that?  I never knew and nobody I play with (from Maryland up to Massachusetts) plays that way. I'm fine with changing it but I had no idea they made even an FAQ on it. ... |

Quote: (Moscovian @ Jan. 22 2010, 16:20 ) Jervis is gone.  We're here.  And constantly reminding us what Jervis would do kinda grates, no offense.  yes, but one shouldn't lightly blow off the intentions of the people who's work got you here in the first place either. |

Quote: (mnb @ Jan. 22 2010, 14:39 ) i think a lot of us are in agreement with this. so, if a formation fails to activate, does it have to use it's move to come onto the board or can it take a hold action? as I said before, as I recall Jervis' intent on this point, you MUST use the Hold action t... |

Actually the Necron rules specifically state they are in the reserve, befor they come on the board, and return to the Reserve if they phase out or go into a portal. Which would mean, that there will be no choice other than to have the auto-rally and BM removal for the Necron army restored if they we... |

There's no requirement to activate on off-board formation that I've ever seen. The only requirement is that if you do choose to activate them, then that activation MUST include a move to take them onto the board. |

Quote: (Ginger @ Jan. 22 2010, 11:34 ) @Corey, In turn #2 when the Necrons are off-table, why can't the opponent kill the gates, or at least most of them? I have seen exactly this happen on more than one occasion in the early stages of testing, and the Necrons never made it back onto the table ... |

Quote: (Chroma @ Jan. 22 2010, 11:08 ) During that "fairly empty" Turn 2, the opponent is going to be positioning, setting up overwatch, and lots of other stuff... which the Necron player can do little or nothing about (sound familiar?  *laugh*), so, in Turn 3, you're going into the teeth of... |
