Hi all, long time no post. Real Life(tm) keeps getting in the way of my gaming! At any rate, while I was going through some old boxes in the process of packing, I found the old WD article (#263, from Dec '01!) with the named crisis suit weapons loadouts. I figured I should share these so that the in... |

Lion in the Stars: As far as the balance issue goes, about all I can think of is to have a defined role for each unit (like the Tau or Eldar lists). Then you end up picking the roles you want to fill instead of the units. In the case of the Tau, FW are the line infantry unit, Pathfinders are a supp... |

Some of that might be do-able with some creative renaming in the unit data blocks. No change in effect, just in name. For example, instead of calling the 15cm AP5+ Disrupt attack on the Fire Warrior stand "Pulse Carbines", call it "Pulse Carbines and Gun Drone". Same idea with th... |

TRC, you're the apparent expert at breaking the system, would adding that 15cm 3x AP4+ Disrupt attack and about 50 points to the basic Tigershark do anything horrible? |

Heavy Gear 1st edition (possibly second, NOT HGBlitz) does what you want it to: Rules for building anything from a 1 ton dune buggy to a 30,000 ton ship, all in one consolidated form (you will want a good calculator for vehicle design, it plays with cube roots). detailed, individualized, customizabl... |

Oh, what about some 'alternate' light tanks: Chimera with autocannon or HK missiles, or some sort of light-attack dune buggy? As far as the balance issue goes, about all I can think of is to have a defined role for each unit (like the Tau or Eldar lists). Then you end up picking the roles you want t... |

Why not push that a step further, and just make the dropped drones a 15cm 3xAP4+ Disrupt attack? That also makes the Tigershark 'bomber' feel like a bomber in Epic terms. This i think could some up drones very simply. This is a quite simple and elegant solution :) Every once in a while I manage som... |

Which Rogue Trader book? The original 40k, or the RT RPG?[/pedant] I'd build it like the IG list. You have to take the Reg HQ, then you add platoons or companies to achieve your desired army composition. I'd assume little to no artillery (you have aircraft and/or spacecraft for that), and few heavy ... |

Brainstorming on/ I have always thought of Drones as being one of the iconic items that defined the Tau. As I understand it, they are widely used in roles that are dangerous, menial, remote, as a force multiplier etc, and in the past we have toyed with Markerlight, Remote Sentries, Shield, Light an... |

Every unit armed with twin missile pods in Epic is armed with a twinlinked missile pod in 40k. Since there aren't any units armed with a plain missile pod, it doesn't immediately matter that the stats for a "twin missile pod" are effectively identical to a single missile pod. Actually, wai... |

FF4+ for me. 5-6 Fire Warriors (with markerlight support) puts out the same short-range firepower as a Space Marine Devastator stand or a Dark Reaper aspect stand. That would be FF3+, reduced by one pip for the general tau-aren't good-in-assaults rule. So, FF4+. Would that make Fire Warriors "D... |

Crisis Twin Missile Pods are AP5+/AT6+ All the aircraft Twin Missile Pods are AP5+/AT6+ In fact, there's not a single unit the the Tau army list with plain "Missile Pods". Every unit has Twin Missile Pods. Could they be higher? Maybe, since a single missile pod in 40k is equal to an Autoca... |

It does have some good ambush and recon rules (that not enough players use!). It even has rules for off-table artillery support, so you don't *have* to buy the artillery battery to use it. Overwatch is handled as "Defensive Fire", part of the assault step. It's not entirely unrealistic, si... |

@Dobbsy: the aircraft Twin Missile pods have the same to-hit stat as a Crisis suits Twin Missile Pods.
However, the Twin Ion Cannons should have a different statline. They've only got a +1 to the AA attack compared to the 'Cudas Ion cannon. Shouldn't they be AP3+/AT4+/AA4+ (ouch!)? |

Uhhh... unless I've missed something, a Demolisher cannon still hits 2/6 times (2 'hit's on the scatter die), and scatters the rest. 2d6-4 (marine scatter) is an average of 3" off target, enough to miss completely. Rolls of 2-4 on the 2d6 don't scatter at all, 5 is close enough to not miss, and... |
