I was wondering, if is it possible to create a competitive 3000 pts dreadnought heavy Codex Astartes list?

So I've been playing around with the Armyforge - Force Creator, and would like some input...

Probably better to get them into play via pods or thakws, so they don't slow everything else down.

It's definitely doable but you lose any mobility.
What Apoc said :)

In the codex list dreadnoughts only really work in drop pods, they're just too slow and expensive otherwise.... they could concievably work to buff a blitz guard formation but then you sacrifice the speed of that formation which may be crucial in the late game....

Iron hands have formations of em, and blood angels have stormravens to fly em round in (plus they make excellent additions to the death company in their furioso form)

Yupp,

But You'll loose some activations. So I guess it's flexibility or speed?

Only lose one activation if you pod, spent on single use space ship. In your list you can gain an easily gain an extra activation by splitting your warhound pair into two singles (+1 activation +more flexible).

Podded devs with dread(s) is a nice formation. You could thawk them in, but given the cost of the dreads you might as well just thawk in a terminator formations for more macro. A dread would fill up the empty transport slot on a thawk if you thawk'd in tacticals though (but then tacticals aren't a great load for it).

ok,

If pods functions like they do in netEpic, this will give some initial movement but less movement after you first have landed. So I would probably not want to pod up all the eligble formations. Or am I missing something?

If I pod in the Devs I wouild free some points from the Razorbacks. (Halfway to a 3rd landspeeder formation...)

Spiltting up the Warhounds makes sence. Thx!

Are Rhinos neccessary for the Scouts?

Well your dreads only have 15cm move to start. So their speed is the same if they pod or walk in. The rhino/raz mounted marines in the same formation can move at 30 … except they'd go out of cohesion with the dreads if they did. So they are limited to 15cm as well. So podding in a formation with dreads won't cut their move much.

That's the problem with dreads in epic codex marines, they cripple the movement of any mechanised infantry you add them to.

4 razorbacks on devs is a bit much, just pod them in.

How much you want to pod in total will depend on the style of list you are after I suppose.

Scouts get rhinos for free, so yes, use them!

So something like this then?

Incompertus, 2975 POINTS
Codex Astartes (NetEA Tournament Pack 2013)
==================================================

TACTICAL [475]
6 Tacticals, Drop Pods, 2 Dreadnought, Supreme Commander

TACTICAL [425]
6 Tacticals, 2 Dreadnought, Drop Pods, Chaplain

DEVASTATOR [350]
4 Devastators, 2 Dreadnought, Drop Pods

LAND SPEEDER [200]
5 Landspeeder

LAND SPEEDER [200]
5 Landspeeder

SCOUT [150]
4 Scouts, Rhinos

SCOUT [150]
4 Scouts, Rhinos

WHIRLWIND [300]
4 Whirlwinds

WARHOUND [275]
1 Warhound Class Titan

WARHOUND [275]
1 Warhound Class Titan

THUNDERBOLT SQUADRON [175]
2 Thunderbolt Fighters

EDIT:

Hmmm
I would need to add a strike cruiser/battlebarge in order to use pods wouldn't I(very different from NetEpic)

And T-birds will not allow the tacticals to add more than one dread, less you splash for 2 birds at once. (Is that allowed?)

Yep Cruiser required to drop it all and you can't buy two Thunderhawks to mount one formation of Tacticals. You could put two Dreads with a Devastator formation in a TH however.

I'd also be very wary of putting my relatively easily killed supreme commander in my BTS if I was going to drop it....

which variety of dreads are you using? shooty or CC?

That depends, most likely I would drop the pods...

Rearange it a bit, skip one of the tactical formation, and run with 2 dev formations w shooty dread in T-birds.

The remaining Tactical formation will be slow because of the dreads, so probably shooty there as well. Then there is the balance between maximising the size of that unit, compared with the loss of activations...

Something like this

Incompertus, 3000 POINTS
Codex Astartes (NetEA Tournament Pack 2013)
==================================================

TACTICAL [600]
6 Tacticals, 2 Dreadnought, 6 Razorback, Hunter

DEVASTATOR [350]
4 Devastators, 2 Dreadnought

DEVASTATOR [350]
4 Devastators, 2 Dreadnought

THUNDERHAWK [200]

THUNDERHAWK [200]

WARHOUND [275]
1 Warhound Class Titan

WARHOUND [275]
1 Warhound Class Titan

SCOUT [150]
4 Scouts, Rhinos

SCOUT [150]
4 Scouts, Rhinos

SCOUT [150]
4 Scouts, Rhinos

WHIRLWIND [300]
4 Whirlwinds
