I saw this today and it is a bitter disappointment. I 'grew up' on Portent and it was the first place that I started posted regarding GW stuff. It is sad that it is now gone, but not a surprise. The servers became unreliable, and there was simply not enough money going around. It became a victim of its own success. But, it was the only non-GW forum that I have seen GW staff post on, which is an accolade itself.

I do hope that Dysartes site becomes the next place to find the Portent community. It would seem to be an excellent refuge for them and has my support. If I can help with this, Dysartes, just let me know.

Apparently there is also a site called 40konline, and strike to stun who are picking up a fair amount of the Portent members.

I hope this doesn't cause a skism.

I think that there will be a bit of a fragmentation of the Portent community. There is even a hint that some of the old mods from the Portent forums will set up something themselves.

Well, we seem to be keeping a handly on the situation thus far, having gained around 45 members (taking up to 440) and going through an insane number of posts (about 800-1000) since I put up a thread with the announcement from Portent on it on Sunday.

I fully expect it to continue today, making my work as an admin that much tougher - not that I can really complain, but hey.

My main task for now? Making sure both communities integrate rather than segregate into factions. A thread with a "State of the Union"-style address is planned for later today. If anyone's got any advice on this, I'd love to hear it.

Would love to, but never been good with the whole diplomacy thang, I just kinda muddle through. Luckily everyone kinda knows me in the EPIC community so they take what I say with a pinch of salt :).

Unless they have daughters over the age of 16, then they panic.

I would make it clear that you are trying to keep the community together an offering an option, not simply replacing Portent and expecting people to sign up. Let people know that you already have a well established and well respected forum, and that it is stable, reliable and friendly. You just really need to present your boards as the best option. Good luck.
