Doom3 was nice, I agree, but they hyped it like it was THE game to end all games. And I'm sorry, but it was not. Compared to previous games, the story was old, the environment, while pretty, wasnt particularly interactive, and the gameplay was classic Doom. While that in itself is not a bad thing, I expected more. Maybe ID should stick with coding graphics engines and leave the game design to others.
Or maybe I'm just SERIOUSLY torqued about the omission of co-op play.

Hi!
Most games today can ever live up to the hype. The media exposure is just so much.
Regarding COOP play, it seems it is mostly a marketing ploy, since COOP is being held back for when the game goes into consoles like Xbox and PS2...
..as always its about money.

Finished DoW, found the ending to be disappointing. Did like playing the Orks in the skirmish mode tho, I think they should have added a second campaign for them. The voice acting for the orks is spot-on! Anyway, I would give the game as a whole a B+.
Just started playing Rome:Total War, and let me tell you, it is incredible. I have played the other games in the series, and this one hits it dead on! They have fixed most of the gripes from the other games, majorly upgraded the graphics, and improved the strategy mode to the point that you could play the game without fighting any battles yourself, just using the automatically resolve button. I havent gotten into it yet, but I would recommend it to everyone!

I dont time to play games as a rule - limited time to do anything at home, but sometimes at sea there is time.
Is DOW worth checking out ? Whats with that epic patch someone was talking about here?

Dawn of War will keep you occupied for a few days but it won't exactly rock your world. Needs a beast of a machine tho...
Steel Panthers - World at war (Free game) and Rome: Total War however are another matter.

Steel Panthers is an awesome game, and you can find old laptops that people toss or give away, and it will run good on them. Rome:TW is my pic for Strategy game of the Year, and probably Game of the Year if not for the potential of that pesky Half-Life 2.
