Yep. To be honest to me it is actually simpler than the way you are thinking MeBrainBeDrained, maybe that is just a # of games thing. The 'displacing' thing is just a turn of phrase, a way of describing the effect that choosing to allocate your sniper hits first has. I think we've explained the circumstances it can make a difference, but usually it is implicit and in reality the attacker tends to simply choose which units he wants the -1 to go on, and whether those units will also get a normal hit or not.

Thanks chaps. I'll take another look at it when I get some time and take your points on board.

At minimum I need to change the way I reworded the Sniper rule itself, as this is a rare instance in which I have inadvertently changed the meaning slightly in this little corner of the rules. I can see this when I re-read the original text next to mine.

Then I'll also rework the 'house rule' in the FAQ section in light of your points. Though my house rules are only suggestions to help close gaps, it'd still be nice to check whether there is broad consensus that my text is at least broadly acceptable as one possible reference interpretation.

Hooray for bedtime reading!

A small observation on your note about river placements for the Tournament scenario: couldn’t a river run from one edge to an adjacent edge (i.e., diagonally across a corner), and thus be shorter than the short table edge?

I was also going to suggest that a river could have a source or terminator (e.g. dam) on the board, but the rule precludes that (though dams/lakes might not be bad things). However, a river could go underground (there’s nothing that says a river can’t be discontinuous, is there?), which might technically allow it to be shorter if one only counts actual river segments.

I suppose a river could also run into a larger body of water that extends to one edge of the board? Though that’s a bit dodgy.

Yes, I agree indeed it could - I must've had a brain-fart when I made that comment on my way through the tangle.

Ah well, this is part of what 'comments' are for - capture a thought while editing to assess in more detail for drafting later. Some such thoughts turn out to be valid, some not (drafting and editing require different modes of thought), and I hadn't gotten around to revisiting this one yet.

Thanks for pointing out the flaw, I'll make a note to get rid of it.

Right, it's been a while and I've lost the thread a bit, but:

I've drafted new text for the Sniper rule. Please see https://thehobby.zone/issue-tracker/617/fix-misinterpretation-in-sniper-ability-text/

Does anyone see any problem with this? Ideally, you'll chip in underneath the issue ticket, via the Disqus commenting system (which you may already have an account for if you read some of the popular hobby blogs). That'd be easiest to follow. But comment back here if you'd really rather.

Various improvements, PLUS a redux of the 'Ill Met by Moonlight' scenario that I call 'Ill Met by Fog Lights'. Enjoy!

New release: EA Rules Revamp, version 1.2.0: https://thehobby.zone/resources/ea-rules-revamp/Content/Frontmatter/WhatsNew.htm

Nice to see the tweaks you made to the scenario. When me and Britt did supplement book, we did think it could do with a few more tweaks on some of the scenarios in the book. We never got back to do any of them....who knows, we may get back to tweaking the book......some day... :)

Any ways keep up the good work with the EA Rules Revamp.... ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thanks Greg :-) And thanks to you and your collaborators for the booklet and the original scenario - it's great to have these resources, and the booklet is really nice.

My friends and I will play some more scenarios from the booklet at some point. I'd love to see a tweaked version of the booklet if you ever found the time. But in the meantime, if we find ourselves stumbling over any other bits I'll likely do some more redux versions and add them to the revamp project. But you're most welcome to comment - and I'll try to remember who to come to if I have questions now I know where to find you :-D ;-D
