I'm relatively nearby in Bristol if you fancy a game sometime? I've got a table and a scenery I can set up and a selection of armies.

Thanks GlynG, very kind of you!

Couple of people I know used to have armies back in the day and might be convinced to get them out again - if not will definitely be in touch.

My next question - Is the Epic Armageddon rulebook (that came with the GW: EA release, with the Warlord on the cover) still valid for the basic game rules? Know you can download but I quite like having an actual book to read.

yes although you'll want to check out the 2009 errata document for a few clarifications

Fair enough, see how you go.

Mostly. There was some errata / minor changes that GW released several years ago. The community has evolved / rebalanced the army lists a fair bit since but not changed the rules. If you have the epic rulebook you could just print the errata and familiarise yourself with it, or there are versions of the rulebook online including the errata in the text, which you can have printed and bound.

There's normally 10+ 'Epic UK' tournaments around the UK each year and a local one in Bristol or Bath (venue TBC) in March. Come along if you can make it, the players are a friendly bunch and welcoming of new players.

There's a breakdown of the rules here:

http://www.net-armageddon.org/page/rules

In a nutshell though:

Rulebook is missing 3 sets of errata and changes.
PDFs on that site have most of the errata, but not all of it.
TP has it all but was not given to us by GW.

There are some players in Bath and Bristol, and you could also look up the uk epic site
http://epic-uk.co.uk
Which contains a list of upcoming events - you will be welcome to come along and watch if you don't feel brave enough to join in.

Guys - many thanks for the replies, really appreciated!

Ginger & GlynG - thanks, that's really useful to know about the events. Great to hear that there is so much in the South West, at the very least hopefully will come along to take a look. Can I ask what kind of attendance do you usually get, and do you ever get vendors selling any epic usable stuff at them?

kyussinchains & Dave - thanks a lot for the info on rules, really useful. Can I ask what is TP?

I think the south west tends to get between 12-20 at their events, closer to 20 if it's in the Bath/Bristol area as that's close enough to us 'northerners' to do a round trip in a day, you might get a few chaps selling and swapping, most tournaments have a bit of horse trading going on ;)

In terms of army lists I'd suggest starting by using the Epic-UK lists - http://epic-uk.co.uk/wp/army-lists/

It's probably not worth going too much into the details or history but there's been parallel list development by a couple of groups. The 'Net-EA' lists found in the Tournament Pack are balanced fine and used internationally (I used them for years myself when I lived in Oz and NZ and still do occasionally in friendly games) but all the tournaments in the UK and most of the UK players use the army lists created by 'Epic-UK' instead. As a beginners getting into the game then based on where you live the Epic-UK lists would be best to go to (their site also has copies of the game rules and FAQs up to download) to save on confusion. If you get really in to the game you can always explore the Net-EA lists in time as well if you choose.

Thanks for that Glyn - I'm just getting some basic units done for the time being - and hopefully should be working towards a playable force by the new year.

Can I ask if anyone uses twitter to show off or look up Epic stuff? I have tried a few like #epic40k, although there doesn't seem to be a whole lot on there.

Ah OK thanks, I'm not much of a fan of facebook unfortunately!
But, I know that's the same for everyone, preferring one social media or another.

Anyway, I have started to use #epic40k, there are only a couple of other posters on there, but please join in ! :)

Hi folks, another few questions if I may!

Just getting some game tools together now (although still have a bit of a way to go for a playable force)

Templates - are these the same as used for 40k?

Blast Markers - Found this very nice tutorial on the Studio Dropship website (http://studiodropship.co.uk/?p=2902) of using wire wool that I'm going to have a go at. How many of the small and large would be a good number to have for standard size games?

you'll want a 3" template for regular barrage weapons, and a 5" template for orbital barrages, I think these are the sizes used in 40k but not certain

blast markers, you'll probably need about 12-15 small and 3-5 large, that should get you through most games

Yeah, the templates are the same and we used here the ones from Warhammer till we made lighter ones, and i think that even the rules said something about them being the same and joking about it.
