Does anyone know a decent set of rules for this - not overly complicated as I would like to play with my son.

Thanks,

Rob

Another miniature rules set is "The Price of Glory" by Iran Ivan. It is skirmish level which makes for good trench raids. Very simple to learn and could be played until you had enough miniature painted for the Warhammer rules, which if I remember correctly require a lot of minis...

Great War spearhead can be used with small scale miniatures but every stand represents a company so the scope is hardly small scale. :) It's probably not too hard to learn but I haven't tried it myself tbh.

Are there any rules, that represent the trench warfare? Small scale, lot of infantry/artillery, Company/Battalion level?

Does anyone have any comments on Contemptible little armies? How about price of glory? Also, for larger scale games are the warhammer rules any good or can someone recommend different rules?

Price of Glory is a good skirmish game, easy to learn. You also have Through the Mud and Blood by Too Fat Lardies which covers trenches and company level engagements. Great War Spearhead has a bit of a learning curve if you are unfamiliar with the system but covers all aspects of the war at company level and higher. GW Great War can run larger battles but tends to bog down in my experience.
