I've painted my ork forces in Goff colours and patterns but I've got a battlefortress stuffed with kommandos. Should they be painted up as blood axes? I'd rather stick with the scheme I'm using but I'm not sure which is correct according to the background. Do goffs have kommandos?

I'm not sure what the new "fluff" says but back in SM1, the closest they had to Kommandoz was StormBoyz. So what we did for clan purposes, we put Kommandoz, StormBoyz and RokkitBoys[StormBoyz with jump packs] in the same catagory. So intern the only Clan that can't have any of those is SnakeBitez. I don't know how long you have been playing Epic. But in SM1, the Ork sprue had StormBoyz but they had no jump packs. While in SM2 they released an Ork sprue with both Kommandoz and StormBoyz w/Jump Packs. We later called RokkitBoyz ... Here is a pic of one of my StormBoyz Mobs from SM1 [no jump packs] ...

Thanks for the info, I always wondered what those orks were. I only found enough to scatter in my boys stands but they look great all together.

One of the advantages to different colors is easy identification. But no, the fluff isn’t that firm on clan affiliation for specialist orks.

But I would expect Goff kommandoes to be slightly less effective than Blood Axe kommandoes, in the same way non-red vehicles are a little slower. Not enough to affect the rules, just don’t go around claiming they’re actually good at being sneaky!

I think when Kommandoes were introduced (2nd edition 40k?) there wasn't such a big deal made about the clans in the background, and certainly in the rules the different clans were squashed all together. So I don't believe they were attached to a specific clan.

Conceptually it feels like they would work best with Blood Axes (who have spent more time with humies and so have copied some of their concepts of warfare), and that especially fitted with the old 28mm miniatures that looked like they were wearing WW2 British commando uniforms.

But having said that I can't see why the Goffs wouldn't use them as it would be a way of getting up close and personal - and the Goffs often now seem to be presented as a bit of a 'Black Legion' of the orks, by having a bit of everything!
