Last week Atension and I played a game using the developmental Sautekh vs Imperial Guard Steel Legion at our local game store, Dueling Grounds here in Toronto Canada.
This is the first battle report we are actually recording so bear with us as we figure out how best to convey how the game played out. This was the first time I was going up against the Sautekh Necron list although I have played Atension’s Nercons several times before using the older rules (I never came close to beating the old Necron list in Atension’s capable hands).

N – Warrior Phalanx marshalls (brings back 7 warriors) and uses gate to contest 2 objectives

Game called because Necron did not have enough ground units to win at that point. Air power would be insufficient to dislodge units controlling objectives.
IG WIN
IG Player thoughts:
Going into the game my goal was to destroy his infantry units to remove his ability to both regenerate as well as contest objectives. I was confident that I could hold my blitz with the Infantry Company and Hydra units on overwatch. I was surprised at how easily the necrons were able to break my Regimental HQ, which was my BTS, as I had expected it and my Mechanized Infantry units to do more during the game. One big shock to me was the ineffectiveness of my anti air units. I had a total of 5 hydras and 2 thunderbolts which I thought was adequate air cover but I was unable to touch his air units to my satisfaction.
I really enjoyed playing the Necron Sautekh list. Lots more variety, everything didn’t seem unkillable. New models look AWESOME. The necrons still have there dirty tricks but I really enjoyed what there air power and changes to both the infantry and monoliths brought to the game. I endorse these changes and I will give more thoughts on the individual units in the Necron development forum (have some issues with the point cost and abilities of the flyers). Still think Living Metal needs to be tweaked to make Macro and Titan Killer shoots somewhat more effective against it.
I made several mistakes, namely I forgot that the Manticores have disrupt ability after the first turn, did some retaliatory fire instead of picking more strategic unactivated targets and forgot to put Regimental HQ back into unit coherency after rallying in the end phase (resulting in me removing 3 more units because they were out of coherency at the end of the end phase after their withdrawl move which they did not take advantage of).
Necron thoughts:
Atension will add his perspective of the game shortly I am sure
Battle Report thoughts:
This is the first time we recorded a game with the purpose of posting a Battle Report. As such I realize that we need to take more pictures throughout the turn to string the narrative a long a bit better. We also need to be more meticulous with record keeping, which quickly falls by the wayside when things get interesting during the game. Also I note that the file size of the pics is large and therefore the message won't support more then 5 pics (need to take smaller size pics). More pics in next message (due to lack of space in this message).
Any and all comments are appreciated, especially anything to improve our game (ie any rules that we may be playing wrong).
