Hi!

Ever since the first game this has been a perennial question. What is epic about? Titans or combined arms?

I like it to be combined arms, but I confess that titans have been nerfed since AT 1st edition.

No version has found that elusive middle ground.

Indeed ... but I'm biased ... of course ... :P ::)

Combined Arms of course ... but every "local group"/cell plays Epic in their own way ... and like beauty and truth it is in the eyes of the beholder, ie.: gamer ... I only regret I won't have the oppertunity to take those to be "schooled". In as Tas put it, the L4SoTR ... ;D >:D But also in the L4SoTR, I say ... Do What Works For You ... Not Me ... :-* 8) :whistle I've played and game mastered many Epic games back in the day ... The "cell" from one town plays it one way and another town another way ... DWWFY ... NM ... :whistle

But beating a dead horse is what we do so well!!

I guess it shows that we are all so passionate about Epic. have said before that EA is my favourite GW game along with LOTR SBG. Did n't get a game last couple of months because Saturday gaming club not on. But hope to resume this month. In the meantime I have been getting my 6mm fix from enjoying Battletech Alpha Strike.

I might be biased (given that had two eye operations in the last couple of years) but I HATE painting 6mm infantry. But I agree that 6mm tanks are perfect size. Unsurpisingly my EA IG Steel Legion army tends to be mainly tanks with just 1 formation of Infantry (in Chimeras!!).

So I am definitely not one that would like to see GW go 10mm for reboot. Tanks and especially Titans would be TOO big and my huge collection (not quite Primarch level but more than acceptable) would be invalidated.

L4 and others love the other 6mm manufacturers. That's fine but not my cup of tea. I want 6mm figures that are consistent with GW's exisiting design aesthetic. I want current 28mm figures put in de-biggulator. Now obviously that is not something that more established alternative 6mm manufacturers can do because of IP issues.

So the key for me is as others have mentioned, the growth in 3d printing. Either forumware or Shapeways is my saviour here. Filling in the gaps for either new models or stuff that I missed when out of work/off sick.

Cheers

James

Indeed ... it's Big Galaxy ... I have room for many type Sci-fi models in my Universe ... I do like the WWII look of some of GW's AFVs, etc. ... but I also like the look of some of the other companies' models and races ... Hammer's Slammers, CinC, Exodus Wars, DRM, etc., etc. ... With my study of the evolution of AFVs at war, you can clearly see how certain countries' AFVs were very different for others ... Looks a the French, UK, Czech, Pole, Japanese, US and USSR AFVs in 1940. Verses what they evolved into only a year or two or 4 years later. My favorite match up is when the USSR invaded Manchuria near the end of WWII. The USSRs AFVs were literally monsters like T34s, Su-100s, Su -152s, JS 1s-2s, etc., verses the IJF's Type 97 ... which was barely state of the art in '40 ! :o So I like a mix of stuff ... ;D

Hi!Q

I can understand the "purist" approach in regards to epic. I struggle wit that all the time. But here is the thing, GW will never bring it back in any form we could recognize, so you need to look at alternatives.

Although I full heartily agree that 3d printing and sculpting can make quite a few very character appropriate things. :)

I heard of an Epic relaunch set here and there, and honestly I think GW has to do something besides LOTR which I doubt anyone is playing. They must be getting hosed on that deal. I think Epic's best days are behind it, but it would be cool to see it in some form again.

But to me, Epic has to be Epic. Remember Epic started as Adeptus Titanicus. It was titans first. The idea of playing infantry and vehicles around the base of those things came after. To me, the combination of the two adds a 3D level not found in most games. Its what sets Epic aside from other games. Ever play a game versus 3 Gargants? How about 6? The combination of a these massive robots stomping around like godzillas, which hordes of infratry and tanks, and eventually aircraft, makes for such a killer setting. Throw in blowing up buildings and I can't get enough of it.

That being said, I have zero interest in any of it on their own.

I don't care for a Titan-only game.

I dont care for a game with an emphasis on just infantry and tanks.

And I really have no interest in a air-to-air combat game.

I want it all in one package. With some units having the ability to blow the sh!t out of buildings.

Put all that into a single game, and its Epic. Leave any of it out, and its sort-of-Epic.

Oh, and 10mm would blow, but I can see GW doing it to do something novel, but then I doubt we'd see anything bigger than a Warhound, and even if they did produce a Warlord, they would probably give its weapon ranges like 15 inches and state it makes the game better and I would just throw it in the trash. I imagine 10mm Land Raiders would look awesome, but considering what 4 of them recently cost for Epic A.... ugghh.

Epic is 6mm. Otherwise its Warmaster, which wasnt Epic. Cool, but not Epic.

Wow, this is what I can agree with! Very good summation of the real point of Epic.

Btw, does someone know a source for 10mm Astartes? Would give good statues for epic terrain...
