I am creating some scenes for 6mm fantasy and needed some animals.
I went to a hobby shop yesterday to look at some basic animals like cows, dogs, pigs etc. and the train ranges are like $60 for 6 dogs, and similar prices for other animals. As I am not wishing to take out a home loan to buy some toy animals, does anyone know of good quality but decently priced sites where there are singly based animals?

Hi!

I didn't even think they made "regular" animals in 6mm. That high price may account for the relative scarcity of such models.

Did a internet search yield anything more than the example listed?

Baccus do cows and sheep.

Irregular do a whole bunch of animals, I know off hand they do pigs, and sheep. I forget what else they do off hand.

The only dogs I have found have been irregulars dog handlers, which I believe are part of a Spanish range. \

I have never found dogs on their own though, other then the small scale train ones, which are out of scale anyway.

Angel barracks do some stuff but it's more alien animals.

Hi!

I would think wolves could be used for dogs? Unless there is a specific dog type he is after.

Irregular's wolves are huge (and so are there boars)

I use the boars as stand in for maw beasts (squigs) for Kow , the wolves will be used for the same thing, but for the wolf theme goblin army. But they are as tall, and wider then baccus 6mm fantasy stuff. Perfect for chaos, as for dogs they may be a little imposing!

The boars are easily removed into individual creatures, but I think that the wolves are a little harder as some are joined (I haven't got them on the shelf to check)

sorry for taking so long on my own post, family issues and all.
The ridiculous prices are probably more an australian thing, it seems to be how things are done here.
Net searches brought me to irregular, and their prices do seem quite reasonable.
The issue I have with irregular is that I bought some goblins from them, and while quite happy with the quality, found that I was unable to separate them very well. To make a long story short it has made me wary of them for my purposes as I need to be able to separate the animals easily, so it is good to know that the boars are useful like that. Does anyone know which other irregular animals separate easily?

Baccus moo cows do look promising, thank you for that.

I have no focus on a type of dog, am ideally after something that could be used as war hounds.

Its hit and miss on separating Irregular minis. Some our super easy (less gobbos are no problem!) some are ok, but have to be done in ones and twos (ratmen will separate into two lots of two and one single. It is possible to separate some of the two twos, with a little repair work- I know as Ive been working on millions of them! ) some are impossible (dwarves and wood elf pack animals are two that I own that are all connected)

The only thing I know to get that might work as warhounds are the Spanish war hound handlers (but they are attached as one piece minis) or perhaps the epic chaos hounds, with a little cutting you will be left with a dog shaped plastic, but it is going to be on the giant size!

Ive seen irregulars pigs and they look ok, and I recall an internet search a while back they turned up some scratch made dogs for a doctor who/modern 6mm game, but I did not save the pictures and do not remember off hand who's site they were on.

Hi Firebug,

I am currently asking a sculptor i use to see if they can make 6mm dogs, I have put forward the idea of a doberman type dog but with various leg/stance postions.

He is one of the finest free hand sculpters i have seen and if it can be pulled of in 6mm scale they will look sweet ! :spin

Just wait out and i will see what he says

Regards epic

Hi Firebug,

No sorry i dont sell minis or make them for that matter, I drop in and out of the hobby from time to time as i mainly convert and paint when i get chance,

I have found a sculpter who has impressed me greatly on what can be achieved in this small scale and have had custom sculpt made by him and have been amazed by the quality and craftsmanship.

We have some great CAD designers on the forum but for one of sculpts it does not work out feasable for them to design, print cast etc. Where as if you get it hand sculpted its still not cheap but you get a one of item in bronze if you choose to cast.

Im looking at getting a doberman made in a few different postions as i can tie it in with many modeling projects such as epic, vietnam wargames, ww2 and such like.

Not a quick turn around but you cant rush an artist !

Regards epic
