Hey guys and gals, long time gamer, but new to Epic and I'm looking to start a new Iron Warriors force. Playing with a good amount of people in the Los Angeles area, with many different armies and styles, so trying to make a fun, all comers, sort of army. Obviously would like to make something tourny legal down the road, but emphasis on fun is top priority currently.

I've been looking and buying certain things on ebay if i see them, never know when you'll have a chance again. Thus far i have:

24 rhinos (looking for bits to make preds, stalker, etc)
9 basilisks
Warlord titan
Ordinatus Medrengard

irregardless of what i do have, any suggestions on a good build for a starter to work towards?

You can never go wrong with infantry. For Chaos armies that usually means in multiples of 8 for the core stuff and multiples of 4 for the support.

One of the other interesting aspects of the Iron Warriors list is the Defilers being a core unit.
I have 3 formations of them (12 Defilers) and I have a lot of fun with them.

My favourite list (at the moment) is this one:
Quote:
DEFILER ASSAULT PACK [275] 4 Defilers
DEFILER ASSAULT PACK [275] 4 Defilers
DEFILER ASSAULT PACK [275] 4 Defilers
IRON WARRIOR TERMINATORS [275] Iron Warriors Lord, 4 Iron Warrior Terminator
CHOSEN [125] 4 Chaos Space Marine Scouts
HAVOC COMPANY [400] 4 Havocs and 2 Land Raiders, Stalker, Warsmith (Supreme Commander)
ARMOURED COMPANY [350] 6 Chaos Predator, Stalker
SUPER HEAVY COMPANY - DECIMATOR [225] Decimator
HELLBLADE FLIGHT [200] 3 Fighters
ORDINATUS MEDRENGARD [600] (BTS)
That has the Ordinatus (a really iconic Iron Warrior themed unit), decent AA and plenty of Fearless formations.

Another list I had some fun with was this:
Quote:
IRON WARRIORS COMPANY [390] 6 Chaos Space Marines and 2 Havocs, Iron Warriors Lord, Stalker, 4 Chaos Rhino
IRON WARRIORS COMPANY [390] 6 Chaos Space Marines and 2 Havocs, Iron Warriors Lord, Stalker, 4 Chaos Rhino
CHOSEN [145] 4 Chaos Space Marine Scouts, 2 Chaos Rhino
IRON WARRIOR TERMINATORS [275] Iron Warriors Lord, 4 Iron Warrior Terminator
SUPER HEAVY COMPANY - DECIMATOR [225] Decimator
RAVAGER TITAN [650] (BTS)
DEFILER ASSAULT PACK [275] 4 Defilers
ARMOURED COMPANY [450] 8 Chaos Predator, Stalker
HELLBLADE FLIGHT [200] 3 Fighters
I actually prefer the Ravager to the Sieglord. It's cheap enough to still allow plenty of other toys. The Ravager has a TK(D3) attack, ok shooting and is handy in engagements. That extra few cm's in movement is also invaluable!

The combination of artillery and teleporting Terminators has great synergy. It hasn't been overpowering in our games but it does force your opponent to think carefully about deployment.

Hopefully, you'll come up with some great combinations/lists as you develop your own play style.
All the best and have LOTS of fun!

appreciate the replies. Yes I was noticing the amount of formations that differ from the standard chaos fare. Looking forward to using defilers and dreadnoughts in that fashion. Really like the different options in the list.

Btw Onyx, really love your IW army. Was set on doing nurgle, but seeing your work on the list, and especially the amazing models you've done it really help set my sights on IW instead. A big inspiration. Now if I can just track down some chaos troops sprues and some defilers I might be able to actually make the army and play! lol

regular space marine troops may work for IW, considering they sometimes look slightly less deformed and chaotic than other chaos armies, but I'm stickler on the look and feel of units, so I'm hoping to find some sprues.

Thanks for the feedback, will be playtesting your lists with a league here when my force is ready to go in the coming weeks/months

regarding defilers, I think you could make a good stab at converting your own from a variety of bits, GZG's 15mm spiderbots would be a good source of legs/arms

alternatively check out issue 24 here, for instructions on scratchbuilding them

edit: I also started a thread a while ago and came up with a few ideas, including links to potential parts.... never actually did anything with them though!
