Primarch: There's been a GW store in Nashville for about 2 years now. It's the Opry Mills location (on the former Opryland site) in one of the new wave of high-end tourist-driven malls.
GW is generally strong in middle tennessee. At the peak of game shops, there were 3 indy just-game shops in Nashville/Murfreesboro (the next county, about 20 minutes away), and various hobby and comic shops that also carried gaming stock. In fact, I went to college in a town of about 20,000 at a university of about 7,000 and there was 1 full game shop, and 2 comic shops that carried gaming materials.
We had a recent spate of closings, but I'm sure new stores will pop up. It wasn't due to innate business problems. One was in a bad location and struggled for several years. The other was owned by Henry Higginbotham, the artist that did the D&D 3.0 and 3.5 book covers. He has a second baby due any day now and was getting as many commission offers as he could do. He tried to sell the store, but 3 deals fell through, the last after he told his landlord he was leaving so he discounted everything and shut it down anyway.
Speaking of which, Primarch, if you don't mind, drop me a note at neal.e.hunt@teamstatestreet.com. I'd like to discuss running a store with you and would prefer e-mail to pm's.

Hi Everyone,
---
As many of you might know, I plan to host a big E-A game in september at the Conquest gaming convention. I have written out many of my plans below and am looking for advice and a "melding" of our minds to make my scenario a really good one. I would greatly appreciate any feedback.
---
Conquest is during Labor Day weekend: Friday, Sept. 3rd to Monday, Sept. 6th in the Bay Area (near San Francisco), USA.
If you want to run a game, you need to submit by 31 July 2004.
You also get cheaper ticket rates if you buy them early ($30.00 USD) and I think there is an additional discount or it's free for running a game.
I put in a link for the Conquest web site so you can get further details.
Just in case:

---
I've been playing with the scenario, but right now, it's a sort of a free-for-all with mystery objectives that each player has to recover as many as possible throughout SF and the Golden Gate Park. I wanted the game to be able to accomodate many different forces. I plan to bring at least four of my armies so I can provide loaner forces. Right now, I'm planning the game for four to eight players.
*** How many players is optimal for a convetion E-A game? ***
---
Team-play often times stagnates.
*** What does everyone think? IS team-play desirable or a free-for-all? ***
---
I need to get some foam and carve out some hills and then do some texturing. It's a very realistic goal with CONQUEST still a month away.
*** I'm also probably going to be short on trees. Have any extras? Maybe even K&Ms? ***
---
I have a lot of buildings and already have several blocks of Victorians built. I have lots of other structures as well.
---
I already have four well-painted armies (and another six or so that aren't so well-painted as well as possibly more when I find them) so that's fine. Most of the guys will also share with me if I need them.
---
*** Do you think a 4'x6' or 4'x8' map is better? ***
I'm planning on a 4'x8' map.
---
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

Hmmm... there was a neat scenario in W/D during the SM2/TL era. We played it, and liked it. IG vs. Chaos looking for active Warp Gates on a jungle planet. Not sure what issue? ? ? ?
I think a 4'x 8' table is better. Gives units room to maneuver and not just run into the center and go into close combat.

With 4 to 8 players an 8' x 4' table will be essential I think, those tenement buildings of your mates are brilliant by the way.
Sounds like it's going to be a whole lotta fun. Now all I have to do is find a ticket to San Fran.....

Hi Justin,
With 4 to 8 players an 8' x 4' table will be essential I think, those tenement buildings of your mates are brilliant by the way. |
Where did you see the tenement buildings?
I'm curious even though I know I've put up a good amount of battle reports and the like.
Sounds like it's going to be a whole lotta fun. Now all I have to do is find a ticket to San Fran..... |
If you find a way, I'll find you a place. My couch must have your name on it...
Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.
