Hi!

You look at your SM army and there are marines on jetbikes, Thudd guns and Mole mortars IN METAL!

You own an Actual Capitol Imperialis and Hellbore

Your plastic warlords sport metal heads and weapons from the old variant packs that go for mad money on e-bay.

When you think its a good idear to set alight to a warlord titan and melt it to look battle damaged

When you melt parts of an Imperator with a lighter and then cover it with glue/oil paints/ candle wax to make it look Nurgle

When you have square stands with just 5 heavy troops stuck on

When your mate has a Zoid in his Ork army

When you actually remember buying epic in a real shop......

When you remember old beta-nerds being unduly upset by modernisms such as epic 40K. 15 years ago.

Omg!

Being a youngster, I just learnt something very deep from this game / community, by this topic, you old f**s. :D
Where will Epic be, when I become this old too? No one knows, but this game just survived with lack of official support and stuff. Pure awesomeness, and you guys, the community kept it up! And perhaps it is growing, or is it only started here?
I mean in Hungary three-four years ago there were 1-2 active players (excluding me, I didn't even know Epic exists!!!) and was about to die out completely, but then one new player arrived, convincing the other ones not sell their armies.
Today there are 6 active players just in Budapest, and we are hearing about some other towns where 1-2 guy gathering armies...

So yeah there is a good chance for me too, when I will "realise" I become an old Epic player. :)

The 'Incoming!' fanzine and it's promotion on Warseer did a lot of good - it's how I heard Epic exists.
I think Goatboy on BOLS also sent a few more people looking.

Perhaps we should start an intensive outreach strategy?

They don't make games like those any more - sigh!!!

But not only the AH games were great, we spent some enjoyable evenings with Games Workshops'

Battlecars, Doctor Who, Blood Royal - surprisingly we didn't play much Blood Bowl than.

Still AH wins 47 to 14 over GW on my shelves only counting boardgames from GWs board games area.

* You have a metal pin badge in the design of one of the titan legion’s symbols, which you won by shouting ‘Waaaagh!’ the loudest during a release-day gigantic Titan Legions battle in GW.
* You realise you’ve been playing epic nearly two-thirds of your life.
* Your teenage years included many three-way Epic: Space Marine games, played on an L-shaped area of bedroom floor and where rules debates between your friend and his brother often ended in physical violence.

I tried that aged 11-12 or so after accidentally snapping my Warlord’s legs off. I may have got slightly carried away but I reckon it looks good for a reactor meltdown:

Good thread :)

-You know that "Baneblade", "Shadowsword" and "Capitol Imperialis" were not the original names of the models. But can't remember the original names as the article was lost in a move... :{[]

-You know "Leman Russ" the tank was first introduced in Epic.

-You remember the time when there was no machine god.

-You remember the time when Falcons did not have turrets.

-You have metal infantry for Eldar and Marines.

Brummbar, I salute your game collection. I had to get rid of many AH games to save space _and_ to appease the insignificant other, a thing I deeply regret now that I'm divorced. But I still have ASL.

EDIT: However, I have no grey hair, nor do I lack hair. Plus I must say I love this place because I'm definitely not the oldest around here. ;) It's a nice feeling as in the place I currently work everybody is at least ten years younger than me and most are 15 years younger. In my RPG group everybody is again 5 to 10 years younger.

I read a lot of the old WDs when I was young and I think Falchion and Glaive (not sure which was which) plus Behemoth were the names, if I remember correctly.

Shame you had to loose the games.

I do not want to hijack the thread, but I found an olden goldie Avalon Hill game that has been re-released as an iPad app - Titan. Currently playing 12 games simultaneously and loving it.

So, basically, the moral of the story is that sometimes memory serves you right, those games actually were awesome.

Yep, thanks for reminding me. :spin I think Falchion was shadowsword.

Mine still don't! Newfangled nonsense, I say.

My sympathies; I've lost a few games over the years to mildew and mice, and I still on occasion eye the survivors, wishing I had time (and an opponent with time) to play them again.

My group is still the same High school and university mates I played with back in the day. Of course, nowadays a few hours of dungeon crawling is really just an excuse to meet up, dine and chat.
