THW reaction system fits perfectly for this type of game as you fly your fighter and meet blips of unknown enemy forces that can be anything, incluiding a false alarm. Fighters react to spotting enemy ships, fire, incoming missiles, friendly ships down, etc.
You also have a campaign system that allows you to start to play inmediately and without any preparations before and which gives you endless different games.
You play always as wing leader of your flight but you can have more flights than one, even Capital ships.
The five basic missions in the game are patrol, attack, boarding action, escort and defense, but then you have PEFs (possible enemy forces), random events, unexpected situations, enemy Activity Level and Investment level, Intelligence, weather, escalating engagements and reinforcements, etc. that make each game unique.
