just used badab black wash for the first time and it utterly reeks to high heaven..... is this normal or did I get a bad batch? it doesnt seem to be working as well as devlan mud does, but I have no idea if that's normal or not.....

the smell actually makes me feel nautious.....

In the interests of … something, i just tried sniffing both. I'm not dead yet and still seem to have my eyesight, but badab did smell slightly stronger than devlan. Smelled like they've smelled for the last however many years.

They all stink. It's most likely the thinning agent that helps break the water's surface tension.

The things we do for... science? I've gotten some Delvan mud pots that reek. However, I've also found that the pots that reek increase my painting speed and accuracy by 10 points.

They smell bad... The ex GW store manager I know complained and his complaint was answered from head office with the comment "They all smell now...it fades after a while."

I've got some Cotes D'arms super washes to try and if they do the same job as devlan/gyrphone sepia I can leave GW behind for hobby supplies :)

I wasn't too impressed with the CdA washes. They don't flow as well and the pigments settle very quickly.

They were the super washes, not the ink washes (pretty much just inks from the old Citadel line) or the Super Shaders (repackaged wood stain).

I saw the title and knew immediately what this would be about!

As with the others mine smell too, sepia especially, seems to get worse as you use it too. Varnished my Imperial fists a couple of days after finishing them just to mask the smell.

A bit bitter, but niether the taste or smell is as bad as the old Inks, IMO. It took me forever to realize the odor that followed my WM SKaven everywhere was not a blessing of Nurglitch, but in fact the smell of Brown Ink.

That's the spirit :) Anyway, not tasted them, but try putting some wash on your fingertip and then rubbing it with your thumb, has a very odd feel to it.

I try and avoid hair-driering the Citadel Inks as they smell more. Like warm farmyard.

ok, I'm.... reassured.... I guess....

I've never smelled anything like it, and my other washes are practically odourless (my 3 devlan mud pots all have a not unpleasant nutty smell....)

I have to get used to it as I've got 3k of guard to paint before Feb 4th..... :(
