Report: Defence of Lavos VIIQuote:
Lavos VII is a planet within the outer-core. Confusion on why the Tyranids attacked this, barren landscaped planet, was rife with the Imperial Guard's command bunker; the Tyranids normally attack 'heavily populated' planets and, with a population of just 17 million, Lavos VII is certainly not in that category ... however it's raw materials supply Imperial Guard armies far and wide, therefore it had to be defended at all costs. Hours before the attack, radar equipment spotted a large concentration of spores heading for the small, industrial, city of Kasabian ...
"...we will hold them there..." instructed Commander Morang.
Deployment The city is split east / west by the River Tyrus. It was decided that the bridge - being the only way across the molten lava for 50 miles - was to be held at all costs.

Lord Commander Crass, and his 382nd Mechanised Infantry Company, held the east side of the river.

A conscript army of locals and volunteers, from planets close by, made up the west bank army, commanded by Major Trott.
As the Tyranids rolled randomly for deployment, it was Crass who would face three times the size of his own force. Outnumbered 17-1, the guard dug in on the east bank reluctant to give an inch. Fortunately, Trott had only encountered a small scout force and so the, inexperienced, commander had weight of numbers on his side.

The east side

The west side
The East side of the conflict Outnumbered 17-1 Crass fought gallantly killing wave, after wave, after wave of enemy troops. His forces knew that they would die ... but they would give their lives dearly for the defence of the city.

Tyranids start their assault on the east side.

Wave after wave press forward towards the bridge.

The 382nd are ordered to leave 'no ammo clip untouched' as they lay a devastating wall of fire upon the enemy.

The Tyranid attack continues, however the 382nd would rather ‘stand and die’ then fall back.

Eventually the outer-defences fall, with Crass falling back to a new, fortified line.

Eventually the Tyranids kill 90% of Lord Commander Crass' forces; however such an amount of death and destruction has been dished out, by the 382nd, that the Tyranids are now no longer strong enough to continue their assault.
The west side of the conflict
Even though the numbers are on the guard’s side, the Tyranids make quick ground and catch the guard 'off balance'.

As this small Tyranid 'scout' force threaten the entire west flank. Lord Commander Crass reluctantly sends some of his 382nd division
(titans) to plug vital gaps on the west bank.

Trott's elite tank company is in full retreat and panic spreads. Only through seeing the professional 382nd division hold their ground is moral restored and the line held.
Resolution The east side of the river had been lost, but the Imperial Guard still held the west. Full military honours were given to Crass and his men, as all players involved agreed that the 382nd Mechanised Company were the stars of the show.
Side event
The Imperial Guard players asked the Tyranid commanders to find Wally ... a chocolate muffin was the prise for the first person who found him.

It was a tie.
I hope that you enjoyed this true account of events on Lavos VII and remember ... I have the photos so I have the primary evidence to back-up my statements.
Thanks
