Did GW have a car wars type game. Can any one tell me anything about it or if I can get my hands one? Also interested in finding 6mm or so car minis.

It was called Dark Future (Battlecars before that). Never played it, it has always been too expensive whenever I've looked. It used 1:60-1:64 scale cars (Hot Wheels size), much like the latest version of SJG's Car Wars.

A little bit of searching, and I found GW has added it to the list of "Who cares now, we'll make it free" stuff.

Car Wars!

We played this the other night. It was a lot of fun.

Very easy to learn and play. Our group will definately play this again. :)

Still got both Car Wars and Battlecars in the cupboard.
Great memories.

The original car game was - I think - Battle Cars. Dark Future was GWs attempt at it, and it was one of the first very successful GW games, and had a couple of expansions. I have two copies somewhere around, and the rules are available for free - although you really need the track pieces as well. The system used a 'rolling road' where road is added in front of the cars and removed from behind it. The road is split into a semi-grid pattern, a grid on the straights which is offset on the corners so that there are less squares on the inside tracks making it faster on the inside. There were three main types of vehicles - bikes, renegades (buggies) and interceptors (race cars). Each car has a speed and a turn is split into speed bands. A car moves one square up to the speed band.

The game is actually very cool, and my favourite of its type, as there were construction and campaign rules, and allowed home rules to be constructed easily.

If you get a set on eBay, make sure that you have the track sections. The cars can be used from a variety of sources with guns stuck on and the rules are available, but the track sections matter.

The original game was indeed Battle Cars and had one expansion, battle Bikes!

Cardboard counters on a board with each car represented on other cards with armour boxes and weapons printed on them. You then placed small square counters on you car card as you picked up damage.

Really quick and fun game that I seriously wish I'd bought back in the day. Rarely see it on ebay, not that I've searched that hard for it.

I have Dark Future and its supplement White Line Fever IIRC both boxed and with all components. It was a fun game, I played it w/ my dad while we were on holidays in the Algarve all the time! It was cool you could buy any odd Matchbox-type diecast cars and stick some guns in them to make them work in the game. The 'universe' was also very good and 'adult' compared to fantasy and 40k. All about revolution, big corporations and so on.

That's the game. I'm looking for small scale cars. I think I'm going to get model RR cars and do conversions on them.
