Cool... this sounds like it could be great.. at least it isn't another 40k turn-based strategy.. *shivers*

Relic should make a good job imo... I've just completed Homeworld, and I'm making my way through Cataclysm- they now rank in at least my top 5 games ever!  :)

Definately - I just hope they stick to a RTS format, and don't try and do Dogs of War style combat :S

I just want to see Medival total war adapted to fantasy - or even a 40k version would work I guess.

I would actually prefer to see a 'real' turn-based strategy 40K game. Efforts so far have been a little poor. I want a faithful computer version of the tabletop game. Basically, there must be a huge market out there of people who like playing the tabletop games, but dont have the time, minis or opponents. A complete reproduction of the tabletop game, complete with dice roller, etc, must have potential.

If there is anyone out there (NetEpic) who could put together this, or a campaign system, they could clean up! A friend as been searching simly for a campaign system that will move troops around realistically, let him move his troops around and let him fight the engagements that result.

I am sure that there is a lot of potential to sell software to tabletop wargamers, not just computer game players.

Ummmm..... ask Doug and Primarch - there is a version that is approaching a beta stage.... just needs graphics, and a whole lot more coding ;). At the moment units can wander round and shoot each other but the shooting doesn't have any effect.

Naturally it isn't Epic PBEM because that is against copyright - it is simply a wargame PBEM engine where anyone can create army lists with graphics (hopefully not using anything that is copyrighted although I have no control over what data my users import into the game) and then battle it out.

I have shown screen shots to Doug and Primarch - when the shooting is working I will email out a demo version for a few test games. It isn't as far off as it looks.

Naaah - you get this Maltese thing with Italian, French, etc. -we just don't like anyone much - except in football, when we just don't like ourselves at all and prefer anyone else.. :p

Umm, Netepic, I'd like to know the hardware requirements of the game you're talking about... any chance it will run on P133?
If not, then I'll just take a look on the web and do some nice and fun Wh40k-style mod of Ufo:Enemy Unknown or Wolfenstein 3D.

It should run quite happily on a P133. It is hardly a high end program to write a TBS game.

As for modding - UFO: TEU stored it's graphics as binaries didn't it? As far as I know it seemed pretty unmoddable from memory, although it is probably the EASIEST game to hack in the world, lol. If you are into cheating that is, I used to love seeing how tweaking the hex would give me millions of cash and equipment :p.

As for Wolfestein - I have looked at the source code and it is kinda spaghetti like, not worth bothering with either as the engine is so old, try Quake, I know there is a good 40k mod for it anyway to give you a basis for your modding. If you use one of the latest engines then you should be sorted ;). What about the Half life SDK? Then you can make use of some of the best AI routines in gaming history.

Well, netepic, I heard there are some people who managed to crack through the binary stuff. I think I have seen some programs for making mods for these games too, so I won't even look into the code :D .

And cheating... Cheating UFO is simple. Happens that a week ago I have completed the game without them.

Try cheating Fallout & Fallout 2.


Quake or Doom might be a good basis, but for the Q I once had it on one of my game CD's... the one which went down first... :(

H/L is out of discussion, as my hardware won't be capable on launching it. :(

Maybe the Starcraft... IIRC, all the sounds are packed into MPQ files, as are the graphics and all the important stuff. There is also a complete instruction on making SC mods, and quite a few programs capable of creating MPQ's.
I guess it's worth trying. :D
