depends entirely how you view it.

That doesn't sound like siege warfare to me.

"Your father... was seduced by the Dark Side of the Force. He ceased to be Anakin Skywalker and *became* Darth Vader. When that happened, the good man who was your father was destroyed. So what I told you was true... from a certain point of view"

The idea below I think works so I would be interested in your thoughts (rewording may be necessary):

Fortified Defence
When, with at least 50% of the formation defending from cover at the start of an assault, Imperial Fists count a 'drawn' combat result as a win. The opponent is broken with no extra casualties and follows the rules for [insert reference here].

In effect, there is no 2nd round of combat with Imperial Fists who are defending from cover - there is always a winner and a loser.

This rule would also open up the possibility (supplement wise) for Iron Warriors to have a Siege Specialists rule which would be that they always win drawn combats when assaulting cover - hence the two would cancel each other out. The only time a drawn combat in cover would continue with Imperial Fists is if the Iron Warriors were doing the attacking.

Thoughts?

I like the rule FB. Well thought out and bends but doesn't break the rules. Definitely brings character to the list.

I don't think that this would be overpowered. How often do you have a draw in an assault? One in ten perhabs?

Rules for flavor have to walk a fine line, keeping game balance and not being fiddly but at the same time having enough effect in-game to impact the flavor and feel of the game. I think it's fine mechanically, but it just wouldn't happen very often.

I'd probably skip it. I think it would end up as clutter - "on-paper" feel rather than an actual in-game effect.

Whatever I decidec on, I want to make the distinction that the list will favour Seige (defence). I feel that discussions have maybe gone off track a little with a view to guerilla warfare tactics which I am not in favour of. So back to the vision for me.

Neal: You have a good point. If I can make the list unique through the list build without special rules, then that is what the eventual goal is. Fortified Defence will be there to fill the 'void' if required.

Thanks all.

I'm with Neal, I don't see this adding flavour so much as almost never coming up, then being an annoyance to your opponent when it does.

It may not be used for current lists, however if the rule existed, it would (for me at least) change a playstyle or plan to place those tacticals onto objectives in cover. Effectively I am half a pip up on any enemy assaults, and I have better than average defence against shooting.

It would be seen - just not in the current Marine flyboys lists. Give it a chance at least...
