There are IP issues too, several tornaments are held at Warhammer World and GW gaming rooms.

Indeed.

Any publications put out by EpicUK must only contain pictures of GW models or reasonable scratchbuilds, whilst entrants at GW-run tournaments should tend to avoid bringing too many proxy models***, IMO.

***Unless those people made those proxies themselves, then they can bring anything they like and noone can complain, hehehe.

We considered that for the Minervans, but "tank riding" has never really occured in battle situations historically AFAIK, only in moving around behind the lines when many miles from the enemy, so it was rejected as unrealistic.

What like tanks that can fly!

Well personally I'm an eight foot tall super soldier in powered armour... and I still think that putting infantry on top of your tank should make them so visible as to grant the enemy +1 to hit them!

Didn't the Russians hae Tankovy?! troops that sat on tanks.
Admittedly, when the enemy started shooting they dove off, but they did ride into battle on them, their job being to root out enemy rocket launcher troops waiting for the tanks.

Although I may be wrong, AFAIK troops riding tanks directly and intentionally into battle is just a fairy tale.

Battles in WW2 didn't tend to be set-piece affairs with both sides knowing the location beforehand.

So it's not so much they rode into battle, as they rode on the tank and happened to find themselves in a battle.

An Epic equivalent (giving a tank a Transport 1, with perhaps some danger like a D6 1 they die) would still represent tank riders finding themselves facing the enemy.

I've worked a bit on a mech list and it includes tank riding infantry (handled by a nifty special rule for those infantry).

Tactically it was done by the Russians in WWII and was suicide, there are a number of good books on it, I think in fact each of the 3 survivors :) wrote one. But yes a platoon would ride in, one man left alive at the end etc.

I think armoured decent (what I believe the tactic is called) was used close enough to the frontline by the Russians to be represented in EA. If EA was meant to be realistic I don't think it would happen wihin ff range (15cms) though!

And Overwatch shots should get +1 or +2 to hit the infantry!  :)

Really as Chris says you had to be suicidal to ride a tank whilst taking fire.

The Imperial Guard are famous for their low casualty rates and deep concern for their infantry soldiers...

Tank riders are one of the safer Guard careers.

fixed.

I can see it working - units 'tank riding' suffer -1 to their cover save and may still be targeted by AP weapons.

The unit still counts as infantry, and is just 'borrowing' the tanks movement stat.

According to the guys on a german history forum Tankriding was re a legit tatcic by the Red Army and the Wehrmacht
Troopers rode on tanks into battle armed with SMGs (a side effect was that they also protected the tank against enemy anti-tank infantry). They drove right into enemy positions only until then they sat downand and attacked.
Such attacks where usually done at night because at day the casualties where very high because the tank with the infantry was a fire magnet.
