I'll be standing-by Tas, for any and all eventualities ! And Tom, I'm well aware of the "Tactic" ... however so is the "enemy" ...

Wow. I have to say this sounds bad.
Epic will go on sale at the end of January, in Europe at least. The rules will be sold as a rulebook on their own, supported by boxed sets and blister packs of miniatures (i.e. the same way that Warmaster works). A small selection of product *may* be available in stores, but the bulk of the range will be available only through mail order.
We'll be releasing three armies at first (Orks, Marines and Guard). The release will be staggered over three months, but the first month release will include all you need to field a playable army. We'll release the Eldar at the end of 2004, and then bring out roughly one army a year after that for Tyranids, Chaos, Necrons and Tau. Apart from new races, we'll also be adding new models to the existing armies on a regular basis.
Best regards,
Jervis Johnson Head Fanatic

I asked if he really meant they cut the schedule in half - 1 army /6 months or so to 1/year - and I'm waiting for a reply.
I really think that slow of a release could kill the possibility of an Epic resurgence and keep it limited to those of us who are die-hard fans.

Urgh... yeah, I've been pretty positive overall about Epic:A, but this really is bad news- I knew Eldar wouldn't be out until the end of 2004, but 'one army a year'...nasty ...well, we can hope that we get a lot of great minis and support for each army as it appears I guess...

Do I hear a funeral dirge in the background? Just what are the bozos in GW marketing thinking. Or, rather, when are they going to START thinking...

Hi!
I dont think the "marketing bozos" are thinking at all. In fact I'd bet the whole "epic thing" is beneath their radar and have not given it much thought. I truely believe Jervis is all alone on this project and its beginning to show.
By the way, "one army a year" IF the sales projections hold. IF not then NO ARMIES A YEAR.

This all seems kinda odd, as JJ himself said one army every 6 months (at GD UK), thus Tau was a "mere" 2 years away.
Plus, this theory seems to have worked with warmaster, as they have been slowly adding armies every so often since its release.
Cheers
Chris

Hi!
But remember warmaster had quite a few armies released quickly and then added to those slowly. In epic's case were talking about waiting years for all the core armies to appear, let alone ones like the Tau or Necron.
Also, warmaster had a very good run prior to going "fanatic" and their sales seem quite good still.
Epic has none of these things going for it.

Why is everyone viewing this as a dead game before it has even gone into production? We don't know what the future brings. We don't know how much WD is going to publicise it, nor how much will be stocked in stores or if any games will be played in stores. As long as they do the right thing at the right time we will be ok, and the game will survive, but as of right now, I am afraid that they are not at all sorted...
Cheers
Chris

I don't think we're writing E-A off, but we would all like to see new models, good rules etc. However, when you see what has been going on with the E-A experiment, you have to admit, it is always not ... good ?!

Hi!
I don't think the "fans" have written off the game, but GW with its miserly marketing plans have.
As with epic 40k, GW does its best for the game NOT to succeed.

As I said, E-A has been convoluted and has had too many changes from DAY 1. The best we can hope for is the E-A rules "hard copy" some time in '04, and some new models and armies over the next few (many) years ... hopefully ...

Hi!
I dont think the actual availability of the rules is that critical since they can be downloaded, but not having any miniatures to capitalize on the furor caused by the rules is bad business.
I find it less and less hopeful that I'll ever see necrons or tau in metal.....

Latest word on the reasons for the schedule change.
I know its touigh to have to wait, but when we release a range of models it needs to be complete and ready to use for new players as well as those that already have armies. We didn't manage that the last time round (the Chaos DN and bikes being a prime example), and I want to get it right this time. Having all our 'ducks in a row' when we release a game is quite complex, not only do we need to have all of the models made, but we need to have a fully tested set of army lists and the material to go along with them, and we need to be ready to put the range and support material into production smoothly. All of this takes time and planning - it's taken over two years just to get E:A back in print with three armies in it, and based on the experience of doing the E:A book I just don't think we'd be able to manage the re-release of more than one new race per year. Looking on the bright side though, you do have the army lists up in the vault, so if you already have an army then you can use it straight away.
Best regards,

Take it as you will. I think it's a problem.
