"morning boy"...we'll just have to wait to see what a thermos of coffee and the oppurtunity to blow **** up does for me i guess...
It might not be too bad actually; i've wiggled out of work two hours early so should even manage to get a coat of varnish on things and make some objectives in time!

Just wanted to say how much i enjoyed this tournement and meeting up with you guys again. Think it was Steve who said it was like a club night, and it is a good little community that we have.
Apologies to my opponents for playing sooooo slow, but even though i can't win the championship (ONLY because i can't make enough tournements  )i still wanted a good placing and so on a whim decided to take Eldar.

This was probably the best field to date, and my armpits certainly knew the pressure of the days. Looking at the results certainly tells a story. Tim, who imho is a very good player, gets the spoon? Mark P comes next with 4 draws and a loss. I played him first game and drew, and by no means was it easy. The games are just getting harder and the players better.

I love this game. Just when i thought about ditching it and concentrating on Whoremachine i find myself enthused again.

So. Open War. Mentioned it twice to Mrs H and she never bit, so in my book that's tantemount to allowance!!!!!! Been looking at Guard. They are the hardest army to find a list that works, but yet when i play against them in recent times Andy H (CC) Dave T (last year) and Matt A (Wakefield)they are proving harder to beat?!

So what's it to be boys and girls.....Guard for Open War.......Eldar with my new improved ideas and learning from Wakefield.......good old marines who do what i tell them.........

Yep; this was a wicked tourney and a really nice weekend away :-)

I must note however that although i'm getting better i think everyone else is too (as nathan say's). In fact if it weren't for my high painting scores then i'd of been last this tournament!

Anybody who is interested in going to Open War get your tickets as soon as possible - the epic places are safe until the end of September(2 weeks before the deadline) but after that they will be given to 40k.

To echo Nathan+MoK Into the Breach was another great friendly tournament with a 'club' atmosphere.
My 5 games
1 - Man of Kents lovely Orks - which he has listed earlier in the thread. This was a close game and large hinged on Ryans inability to rally his Blitz brigades and his failure (in 2 consecutive turns) to bring on his Landa. Both times after prepping a target and then retaining. The lack of air assault and activations gave me a distinct advantage in turn 3 so I could send multiple formations after his BTS - though I failed to kill it. By the end of turn 3 I had blitz(chosen had teleported in on t2 and wiped out the big gunz blitzguard) but needed to shift the stormboyz and big mob which contested defend the flag and shall not pass. As they were intermingled I attempted to lay BMs with a retinue and then assault - unfortunately the 3 shots killed 3 stormboyz and broke them. This gave me shall not pass -but I still needed to shift the mob for 3-0. I assaulted them with the raptors+daemons and finally won after 3 rounds of combat.

3-0 (defend the flag, blitz, shall not pass)

2 - Rugs IG
Something like-
tank co+hydra
HQ co+hydra
Shadowsword co+hydra
tbolts
warhound
warhound
sentinels
rriders
deathstrikes
Can't really remember much about this other than that it was very tight and looked unlikely to be anything but a draw
0-0 (Rug on VPs)

3 Yme Locs beautiful Eldar
void spinner
void spinner
rangers
falcons
falcons
guardians
gate
aspects - reapers+
aspects - FDs+DAs
aspects - swooping hawks+autarch
2 vampires

Joe and I have played many times at tourneys with the record at 2 wins each and 1 draw so we knew what to expect. Whilst we are both very aggressive players this was extremely cagey as both of us knew that advancing out of mutual support and near the enemy was going to be fatal. BY near the end of turn2 all that had died was the guardian formation which marched out of the gate at the end of t1 and then lost the strategy roll allowing a feral to sustian on them. However this moved the feral out of my AA umbrella and it was killed by the aspects. Turns 3+4 the armies started to close on each other but neither could really get anything approaching a winning chance
Joe on VPs

4 Dptdexys and his IG (listed earlier in thread)
Dave and I play nearly every week but I have never beaten him at a tourney - though I have thrown away a couple of golden opportunities.
After being a little too defensive the previous game I decided to go forward this game and seemed to have Dave on the backfoot most of the game - however his SC making an invulnerable save (last survivor of the BTS) and my feral refusing to activate on a 2 with a reroll removed the winning chance that I seemed to have in both t3+4.
0-0 VPs to me

5 Richard Laking and his SM
Reaver
Warhound
terminators+chaplain
scouts
scouts
devastators
thunderhawks
assaults+chaplain
devs+SC+hunter
?

Richard had looked like one of the weaker players before the tournament as he had only been to 1 tourney before but this had proved not to be the case. After blowing away the cobwebs of not playing for 4 months in his 1st game he had steadily risen up the standings getting results against Dave T and several others.
Unfortunately in this game Richard had a disadvantage in that he had never played against Chaos - however his main problem was the worst dice I have ever seen added to my best dice of the weekend.

High/lowlights depending on your PoV were - termies failing to activate (on a 2) to assault my BTS - on +2, I didn't roll anything below a 5 in assault resolution - and made ridiculous saves, OW retinue fired at LS - so 11 5s - 11 hits!and Richard failing to rally more than 1 formation each turn while mine rallied everyting each turn. Despite these incidents we reached the end of turn 4 with the SM holding on to a draw - and then both rolled 6s for a 5th turn - richard has a reaver, battered devs, a hunter and landed thawk left so really didnt want that. Then I won the strategy roll.
End of turn 5 it was 3-0 take+hold. defend the flag and shall not pass, so I assaulted the reaver with my termies - both were on the SM blitz, the Reaver won but took 2 points of damage - and the detonated in the end phase for 4-0.

I would also like to add my thanks to everyone at the tournament, especially MattO for running the event and not playing. I had five really tough games, which I don’t think that I helped myself with taking an Ork Air Assault army.

First game against DaveB & his Eldar, managed to air assault a formation on the flank (Scouts I think), be up in resolution and lose the roll-off, dead landa. I followed this up by having a full landa shot out of the sky by Dave’s Nightwings scoring a critical. It was a dreadful up high battle for me from then on, but I almost sneaked a win at the end of turn three where there were no unbroken Eldar in my half and I had control of all three of my objectives. Unfortunately the same was true for Dave except that I had a broken formation in his half. If the dice had been hot I could have scrapped a 2-1 win, they weren’t and I went down 2-0 in the fourth.

Second game was against RichardL and his Marines, only 2 Hunters and a Thunderhawk, I thought that my air force was going to be safe here. Richard kept his forces close together and I was only able to pick off some landspeeders and air assault a Warhound. Following up I lost a second fully loaded landa to a hunter coming in for another air assault and my forces were pretty much decimated. This time I had no chance of pulling off a sneaky win and Richard secured a 2-0 win in the fourth turn.

Final game of the day was against Ryan and his Orks, as can be seen above we had had a bit of banter about our lists before the tournament and things went almost as we predicted. Orks fought orks and orks won. Things were going for a draw as we were pushed for time so in the final throws of things and having enjoyed a great game, I tried to final engagements, both went spectacularly wrong resulting in me going from a drawing position to losing 3-0. Whilst this was the worst defeat of the day, my luck had started to change as Ryan had been having bad luck getting his landa on this had continued into our game where his landa failed to air assault in the first turn.

So end of day 1 and my worst ever tournament set of results, 3 loses, the next day could only get better.

Into The Breach Result

Another tournament in the bag. 12 players contested this inaugural event held at GW Wakefield. Congratulations to Joe  Jephson who has now managed to make it 2 wins in a row. The top 3 are completed by Steve Gullick in 2nd and Nathan Hoole in 3rd. Ryan Downes won the Players vote for best painted, while Richard Laking won the judges choice in only his second tournament. Tim Hunt won the wooden spoon and therefore use of the Dice of Dave for his next tournament! Finally Joe won the Most Sporting trophy in a roll off between him and other players. Full results can be seen here.
Thanks to everyone who took part and GW Wakefield for the use of their gaming hall.

[edit] Nearly forgot, photos from the event can be seen here
