Was that image draw freehand? incredible! I thought it to be some kind of cunning transfer based paint job!

@Real Chris:  Thanks, the freehand took lotsa time.  I should have got the otterman to 2d print it for me.

@Vaaish:  Actually, in person the differences in detail between ship sections are less magnified.  I'm not sure why this is, but things like the launch tubes don't really show as much in the pictures.  Also, the sides of the ship are quite devoid of detail on the wings.  I wanted a definite centerpiece for Calgar for the flagship but for my next ultramarine model (a smaller SC sized carrier) I'm gonna make the deck a bit broken up.  I also like your parthenon idea, and think it could work well.

Thanks,
CF

Hey all,
So I've just got my computer set up after the move, and thought I'd take a brief break by posting a bit of the wip shots from painting calgar:

The main borders hand painted in:

White wash over entire areas, and yellow wash over skull:

NMM-style highlights and shadows:

More NMM:

Finished hand-painting:

Airbrushing to blend details:

Final:

I might post a similar how-to for the freehand banners if I get time.
Thanks for looking,
CF

I liked ur Ship from last lear a lot more. The painting is very nice but the overall composition somehow doesnt fit very well.
I think the very broad ending of the ship is too much in comparison to the rather small front. That is what makes the part that connects the two a bit strange in my opinion.
