Does anyone have made a ready to go map? With the deloyment zones for sides and corners marked, the half way lines and most importantly the GT standard level of terrain added?

Chris this thread on the vassal forum has saved games of two maps I've done to try and create the feel of a tournament board. The buildings are on darker areas of ground that are designed to show the edge of the terrain.

No deployment zones marked. What I do now is put an infantry stand on the edge and move it forward 15cm's using shift and the correct direction arrow (move 5 cms up or down). Then I clone this across the board. Same for the centre line.

How do you make maps? I can unpack the model but how do I manipulate a map in say GIMP?

Short answer, You don't.

Start a game. Build the table then save it. When you want to play load this saved game instead of starting a new one.

Vassal maps are a graphics file... .png sometimes or .gifs IIRC basically open source.  The big issue I had with them was aligning a scanned hex map with Vassal's hex overlay, but this is not a big problem with Epic.  :-}

It is possihl4e to make 'counters' for terrain, and set their properties so they can't be manipulated in game (or manipulated only with an Alt-click).

You might look at VASL for a wealth of geomorphic maps -- these too should be open source, and shouldn't be too difficult to port.
