Usually 5 speeders to support assaults but I'm toying with 5 typhoons as an air assault prep unit

I've not voted as it's always list specific.
I use the 2008 Handbook so Tornadoes are a free upgrade, as such i either use 5 speeders for the MW and Fire support role in engagements, 5 tornadoes for tearing up infantry and that little bit of extra range (although last night they gunned down a warlock titan...), or - somewhat expensive points wise - 5 typhoons for the long range nastiness.
Of course 1 typhoon amongst 4 speeders is pretty useful too :-)

I use both formations. Depends on the army I have to battle.

Against Eldar I prefer a Typhoon to lay the BM I need so badly. Against Orks I stick with all-out MW to counter their war engines.

4 LS + 1 Typhoon, when I've got 25pts left for the Typhoon (1 Typhoon = BM at 45cm)
But I mainly field 5 Tornados.

Usually 5x Landspeeders, though rarely with a typhoon to use up the pare 25 points as suggested by others

Most times the 25pts are better invested to an additional razorback

I always field 5 Tornados, very powerful helicopter-like AP firepower (and razorbacks for the main AT power).

Yep.  Uni-type.  Either 5xMM or 5xTyphoon.

I like the Tornados x 5.  IMO people don't play them because of the lack of missile pods.  I didn't... Until I molded them.

Do you mean Typhoons? Typhoons have missile pods.
