Just have a look at this ASSAULT: sure, my opponent had good dice rolls, but I had double the number of troops and less BM than the opposing formation (IG infantry btw, not Space Marines or Dire Avengers) and ended up losing the assault by +7 !!! 12 Gaunts were killed during the Assault, meaning I had to deal with a -12 penalty on combat resolution. How can you hope to overcome that?

I don't know Hojyn, given the number of FF troops you had in that huge horde I would have done the opposite and doubled with them and then engage with the Harridan. It looked like a lot of your engaging troops were outside of 15cm from the picture, doubling them would have gotten you more in range to lend support and assaulting with the Harridan would have just put them at risk for a BM.

It looks like an Infantry company with some heavy weapons? That's what, an average of 6 hits? With some luck your harridan would have survived and you would have gotten some 20 FF shots?

Ravener is my problem again. With 2*3+CC and FF5+, it feels too good. I'd much rather tone it down and drop points to match Gargoyle. For example 2*CC4+.

Although the Ravener does seem a problem and needs something doing to it, it is supposed to be a fairly close match to the warrior. As a comparison between different units, the Ravener should at least match the Warrior in CC (2x3+) and be no worse than the termagant in FF (5+). As a common brood it's a tough call as it really should be (and currently is) better than anything else there both in game and from a background perspective.

Could it be left as is stat wise but reduced to 3 for 125pts. Strictly worse than warriors (Lower armour, not fearless, no venom cannon) but not as limited brood wise

I would have, but the Harridan had already lost 2DC (see the small dice close to it) and I wasn't sure it could survive the assault.

Anyway, my point is that pure Gaunts formation have to inflict lots and lots of damage just to compensate the terrible casualties they inevitably suffer. Prepping the assault with BMs and getting the outnumbering bonus is fine, but it only gives you +4 (+3 max if the opponent has an Inspiring character). Than your hard-earned advantage (prepping an assault is not always easy) melts as soon as your Gaunts start to drop like flies.  :glare:

Also, don't forget it's only Termagants and Hormagaunts who count as 1/2 casualties. The rest of your troops, even other common broods like Gargoyles and Raveners, count normally.

Well it's now that Warriors are LV, they are needed in numbers to protect them. So from that point of view, I'd also like to see them being cheaper. Currently 4 for 125 I'm having problems with protecting Warriors as is. With 3 per 125 it'd be way harder.

I don't mind changing power levels from 40k if needed.

But weren't warriors made LVs so they could be shot (with 120mm cannon).

Indicative of a problem with the Warrior >> LV change: the net result is to remove gaunts from the lists, and raise further questions about whether to buff/nerf the Warrior's LV colleagues.

Meanwhile, because of the proliferation of LVs, it's now much harder to "shoot the big(ger) ones" -- AVs such as the Hive Tyrants, 'fexes, factors, and spexes.
